To John McCain Re: The Dietary Supplement Safety Act DSSA of 2010. S 3002 Leave Us Alone!
Vitamins and Supplements in Jeopardy?
I am writing to you about the Dietary Supplement Safety Act DSSA of 2010. S 3002. I am in hopes that you started out with only humane and caring reasons to enact this bill. I have read that you are trying to bring a stop to "illegal" steroid use. If it is illegal and you are worried about the pro, college and high school athletes, can't you simply address that? Why must you get the government involved with vitamins and supplements?
I suffer from arthritis of the neck and spine and fibromyalgia. I also have bone spurs in the neck and back. I don't use any drugs. I do however DEPEND on my vitamins and the freedom to use them. Will your Dietary Supplement Safety Act (DSSA) of 2010. S 3002 leave my vitamins alone? Or will it force me to go to a doctor in order to get my vitamins? Will the doctor have the choice to turn me down in lieu of prescribing me medicines instead?
You see Sen. McCain, I can't take medicines. They always over react when I take them. I have found a group of vitamins/supplements that actually keep me going from day to day. Is my life without pain? No. But I can tolerate it right now. Why would you want me to live a live of pain and worsening health by giving the government control over my vitamins and supplements? Will you and your co-sponsor Byron Dorgan come here, in my house, and hold my hand when I am in pain and going backwards because of this? No. Will you even think of me and others like me who are totally held together by our vitamins and supplements? No.
Go after illegal use of steroids Sen. McCain. But once you enact a bill, one thing always leads to another in Washington. The vitamins and supplements will most definitely be affected. But more importantly, we, the people who depend on them will be affected.
I am a proud 57 year old woman who has taken care of her health when doctors "ignored" the pain, the sleeplessness and the nerve pain. Alternative medicine gave me a lot of my life back. Sen. McCain, I beg you to let me continue to live it as painless and as comfortably as I can. Please forget the Dietary Supplement Safety Act DSSA of 2010 and S. 3002.
If I am wrong about S. 3002. Please tell me, heck tell all the millions of people that use vitamins and supplements in this country. The stress of hearing about this bill is hard on our health.
