To the Love I Will Never Meet: A Poem About Love Lost

Sabrina Young
To the Love I will never meet (2001)

I thought of you again today, my love.
You, whose caresses, closing my eyes,
I feign to feel.
My searching eyes look up.
In the nothingness
I can make out the lines of your face.
Where are you?
Where did you go?
Why did you leave your queen to rule the shadows alone?
Can you see her,
through the placid fog that now separates us?
You wander the desert in solitude,
as I rot in my tomb.
