I reach out to you
where is your laughter
your songs, the power
you clutched in your hands on Sunday morning
and carried in your free and wild thighs
oh mothers, where, where are you?
oh fathers, why have you gone
have your forgotten
how I first learned to love my deeper shades
in the shadows of
your eyes? that the pride I carry
passed on from your grasp
onto my back?
oh brothers, where
where can I find your hands?
strong mighty sunburned branches
reaching out through time
to take our wilting roses
and grow them tall as wild oaks?
oh sisters, how
how can you go
and leave us without your songs?
and all the coffee hues of you
faded to grays and shadows
soon we no longer see?
oh mothers---
oh fathers---
oh sister and brother---
where, why, oh where, where have you gone?

Hey, it makes me think of those mothers who hae passed on. The ones who were there when we were hurting and laughing. The onbes who chastised us, but then kissed and lifted us when we fell. Beautiful!
