To Trust or Not to Trust

Elisa Ashley
What are we without others in our lives?
What are we without the ability to trust
without people to trust IN?
What are we but solitary beings,
floating in our indifferent existence
knowing we cannot believe what another tells us,
we cannot let another inside our heads
and especially not our hearts.
If we want to remain unscathed,
unbroken,
unhurt,
unchanged
we have to build walls to protect ourselves,
we have to go it alone,
we have to remember that the only person we can trust is ourselves.
But if the only person I can trust is me
and I am hiding myself from the world
How does that make me trustworthy?
I need to give and feel and breathe and share and talk and do and experience
but I can't.
Because I can't trust you.

That's funny. Whoever you are, you need to grow up. If you want to talk to me about it like an adult, I'm sure you know how to get a hold of me.
