A Poem for National Dog Day
Scamping, playful, happy, fun
Caring, loving, on the run
Cute as a button, loyal and true
Companion, best friend
Protector all the day through
Aging and lame, frail and weak
Devoted, still loving and wanting to share
Now I will carry you, my best friend
And give comfort to you
Until your sad end.
I never will find the unconditional love
That you have always given to me
I treasure each day you are here
And when I look back at the joy we have shared
I'll shed a justifiable tear.
