Toa Toa is a delightful restaurant to go to for a nice brunch or dinner. It's a wonderful way to try different Asian cuisines. They offer Hunan, Szechuan, Mandarin and Cantonese style food. The restaurant is incredibly clean and fresh looking but this shopping plaza is an awful mess. It's rather old and dirty and the people do't look too terrific. Don't let the shopping plaza turn you off. Just park and go in, ignore the location and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Toa Toa is open Mon, Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 until 10:00. They're closed Wednesday. Friday and Saturday they are open 11:00 until 10:30 p.m. and Sunday 10:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m..
The Dim Sum is authentic Korean style. We orderd Su Mei ($3.00), Steamed Fun Goi ($3.00), Steamed Pork Buns ($3.00), Stuffed Eggplant and Shrimp Rice Paste ($3.00) . The Shrimp Rice Paste ($3.50)was amazing, the Shrimp were huge. Everyone loved the Stuffed Eggplant . It's made with the long, skinny Chinese eggplant shaved into very thin, flat pieces. Everything weas beautifully presented. We were a party of six, four adults and two children.
The children, my grand sons, were having egg rolls and nibbled some of almost everything else we ordered. You can ask for hot or mild, the spices can be altered to suit your taste . You can get soda (my grand sons have never had soad), Noodle chips ($1.00) and fortune cookies for them for (.10 apices). I was surptised that they cookies weren't free. Extra sauce on anything is .25, also strange.
Our waiter was excelent. Most of the customers wer Asian which says a lot for the quality and authenticity of the food. Our waiter went over the menu with us suggesting different items and expalaining them to us. When he took the children's order he wrote in Chinese and showed them what he was writing, they were in awe. He must have recognized us as new customers and was willing to spend time with us giving his review of items so we'd be able to choose what would work for our tastes. My son in law has traveled in Viet Nam so he was more familiar with many of the dishes which also helped.
Ordinarily in a Dim Sum meal a cart is brought around and you choose dishes off of that. This wasn't done here.
The Toa Toa offeerd all the typical Chinese dishes, the Egg Foo Young(3 patties/$8.95), Wonton Soups, Sesame Chicken, Spring rolls (2/$3.00), Sesame Noodles ($5.95).They have the familiar General Tso's Chicken ($10.95). The soups srun $3.25 to $5.95 per qu YOu can get Chow Mein and lo Mein.art.
If you want to atke an order to go you can get Shrimp wth Lobster sauce by the quart or pint, Vegetables, Beef, Pork in all the traditional styles by the pint or quart and more. The Chef's Specials were dishes like Formosa Chicken which is a dish from Chinese folklore made with pineapple, snow peas and scallions ($10.95) or Four Happiness, Shrimp,Beef, CHicken and Roast pork sauteed with odd vegetables. ($13.95).n
Some of the more exotic items were Sate Squid ($6.25), Cold Jellyfish ($5.25), Chinese mustard Greens($4.75), Stuffed Taro ($3.00). There was Turnip Pudding and Chive Dumplings, Smashed Red Bean Pancake or Sticky Rice with Lotus Lef ($4.95). There were many many interesting, odd items that we didn't feel adventurous enough to try. If you're very comfortable with Asian foods this would be the palce to stretch your limts. Everything we did order was absolutely fabulous.
The menu is a tri fold paper menu with lots of photographs so if you are puzzled about a particular dish you can check the picture that goes with the item to see exactly what it looks like. I think this is an excellent idea for new customers If not feel free to ask the waiters, they're wonderful. The entire restaurant is geared to please it's clients. If you want really good Asisan cuisine , whether you're feeling adventuresome or not, this is a very good choice of restaurants with a wide selection of foods of Asian food. The Toa Toa would be so much better in a different , more upscale location but I still highly recommend it.You won't be disappointed..

Post a CommentI can't say that this author made the place sound very authentic with his mistakes. All the dishes described sound like typical American food.
This place is freakin awesome! the restaurant owned by the same family for 18 years. everything's made fresh daily.
(There's also a typo in your article..."the Dim Sum is authentic korean style". That's incorrect. its authentic Chinese style. :o)
YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Sunrise, Fl sounds familiar...I'm in Winter Garden, next to Orlando..where is that?..great review you did!!
Sounds like some yummy stuff :)
This sounds wonderful. There are no good Chinese food places in Utah! I miss it.
It didn't quite make me hungry, but only because I'm still full of sushi from yesterday! The food does sound great. If I'm ever in Florida I'll be sure to check it out!
Wow sounds pretty good, Wish I was in Florida
I long for that Florida sun and some of that food too. We had tuna casserole tonight, not bad, but certainly not Dim Sum.
It's a conspiracy- you and Christine Bude and all this talk of sunny, warm Florida while I am up here freezing.
