The building is in an area full beautiful old stone and brick buildings. The front of Toad Hall Toys has an old fashioned swinging sign to catch your attention and colourful windows to look in at the displays. It draws you in. Toad Hall Toys fronts on a street, not in a mall or strip mall. That alone gives it a more gracious feel. It is nice to see that a family type toy store can still draw in the customers. They have been around since 1977 and are still going strong.
Walk into the store and you are visually greeted by a rainbow of colours in every area. The wooden plank floors even add charm and a homey, warm feel to Toad Hall Toys. There are many containers and bins full of tiny surprises and displays throughout the store. It is fun to explore every isle. It is also a very fun excursion with children as the displays are easy for small people to reach too.
Although the store is not large, it is crammed from one side to the other with a huge assortment of toys They buy from 50 countries around the world, so they have a wide variety of toys from which to choose. Toad Hall Toys carries everything from puppets and dolls to board games, educational toys, innovative toys not seen in other chain type toy stores, trains, models, dollhouse supplies, science, building toys, infant toys, crafting kits and supplies, science and nature items, small grab bag/loot bag toys, collectibles and everything in between. They also have a very nice selection of children's books for all ages, displayed for maximum enjoyment and accessibility. They even carry beautiful old fashioned styled wooden or tin toys.
The staff at Toad Hall Toys are warm and receiving. They seem to really enjoy what they do and are quick to offer help and advice if you need it. If you are struggling over a gift idea, they are there to help with suggestions. They are a quality store with welcoming employees.
This is definitely an alternative choice to the cold warehouse type toy stores. The children we have taken to this wonderful store have begged to go back for more visits many times. If you plan on taking children with you, make it an outing. This is not a store to rush in and out of. It is an adventure in Toyland. Even adults find things to enjoy in this sensory filled, toy paradise.
Toad Hall Toys is located on 54 Arthur Street. There is some parking available for car drivers in front and in a paid parking lot at the side. They are near local bus lines, for those using public transportation, which is a big plus in a city with limited parking. Their regular hours are MTW 9:30 - 5:30, Th and F 9:30 - 9, Sat 10-5, CLOSED Sundays.
Toad Hall Toys is worth visiting over and over again.
