Toby Keith: A True American Poser

What is this I hear that Toby Keith has released an anti-war song? So, is he right wing or left wing?

This is a very interesting situation. For those of you that don't remember, Toby Keith came out with that song that says, "we'll put a boot up your ass, because it's the American way". Now, I have never been one to enjoy his songs, and I honestly have not taken the time to listen to him. However, with that song all over the radio and clubs, it was impossible to avoid. The only thing it did for me was form a hate towards Toby Keith.

This hate came on multiple levels. For one, it is just a very dumb non-creative lyric. I don't care where your politics lie, either way those lyrics are horrible. Two, it was idiotic right-wing propaganda that I, personally, disagree with. Three, I can't believe that someone with so little talent could be so popular in the music industry.

Since I refuse spend anytime researching and listening to Toby Keith, I only heard on the radio about this new song. The man that has built his whole career on right-wing war hungry fans is now claiming that he has been a democrat all a long. Well, it is not my place to say where someone's beliefs are, I just don't understand. I mean, I am cynical enough to trick thousands of people to give me their money, and then come out and laugh in their faces, but is Toby really doing this? Or as some are saying, is he an opportunist that will do anything to sell a record?

Music does follow the times. Yet, artists should not. If you were a real artist, you would express yourself and be yourself. So, even if Toby Keith politics really are closer to mine than I thought a few years ago, I still do not like him anymore. In fact, now I have even less respect for him (if that is possible). I think that most fans are feeling the same. The old fans hate him for betraying them and the people that would appreciate an anti-war song don't want anything to do with him.

Now who is the "flip floppers"? Not that I could ever really agree with that term. Mainly because I do believe that people have the right to change their mind, especially, when something life changing happens, or information was misrepresented. When this the case, it is important to admit to being wrong and explain exactly what made you change. This would be honest and respectful. When you completely claim your beliefs to be differently than what was apparent before, you are just making yourself look worse.
