Today I Heard from God; and Answered

Day 96 - a Year with God

Marilyn Quinn
An incredible thing happened today. It was a day like any other. And out of the blue a friend called me that I haven't heard from in months. That was nice, but that's not the amazing part. She asked how I was and instead of the usual answer of fine, I opened up to her about my Bible study and how I am contemplating what it means to be a wife the way God intended. I had never really gotten it in all my years of church attendance and now that I realized I was doing things wrong, I was determined to correct it and be the wife God called me to be.

She went on to tell me that during her morning prayers, God put it on her heart to call me. She normally wouldn't interrupt her time with God for anyone because he deserves to have her focus, but she knew that she was supposed to call me. It wasn't until after I gave her my declaration of my new-found insights that she revealed she and her husband had just become involved in a couples ministry. And she said that we had never had the kind of conversation that we had today even though we had discussed scripture and Bible study many times.

Her voice and her witness was what I needed just then, so when she says God told her to call me; I tend to believe it. He must have put it in me to open up to her at that time too. I don't normally just spill my guts as soon as someone phones me up.

I guess like every other trait and quality I am trying to grow in my spirit, knowing that you are hearing from God is one of those things that requires you to practice. You have to learn to recognize his voice. When is he really talking to you and when are you just hearing your own voice or that of the enemy? We have so many things going into our minds, consciously and subconsciously. We are bombarded by messages from television, radio, other people. That is why it is so important to be aware of what we are reading, watching and hearing.

So, how do we know when God has spoken to us? I imagine it is like what they would say about labor when I was pregnant; when it happens for real, you won't have any doubt.
