Today in Tech -- Computex 2009, Apple WWDC and National Security

The work week starts off with plenty of tech headlines, ranging from homeland security issues to novelty computer casings. Here's some of what is sure to dominate the tech news for the day.

Web Images Endangering National Security?

According to a CNN report, some critics are suggesting that some of the photographic images available for all to see online reveal sensitive data that has the potential to compromise of the United States. At issue are aerial images of nuclear plants and other sensitive locations that critics fear may reveal potential vulnerabilities at the sites that terrorists could find a way to exploit. Disturbing though this may sound, the critics that are interviewed in the interviewed include a piano tuner and a California assemblyman, while federal and private security officials are quoted as being unconcerned at the level of information that is revealed by the photos in question. While not every self described "watchdog" is necessarily a paranoid crank working out of a lonely basement, I would put my faith in the Department of Homeland Security's opinion of the issue before giving up the right to public information due to the paranoia of a few fear mongers.

Computex 2009 Round-Up

Although the conference actually ended on Friday, the buzz on the cool gadgets revealed at the 2009 Computex Conference is still making the rounds for some of the most eye popping finds that were unveiled at the the largest annual tech expo in Asia. From Ming replica desktop casings to keyboard PCs like the Eee Keyboard to netbooks approaching the $99 mark, Computrex 2009 had techies of every walk of geekdom chomping at the bit.

Apple Worldwide Developers Conference

Today marks the opening of the Apple Wordlwide Developers Conference, also known as WWDC, located in San Francisco, California at Mascone West. Hot on the heels of last weeks release of the Palm Pre and following the incredibly fast adoption rate of the iPhone for average consumers, the WWDC is, well, kind of a big deal. There are over 1000 separate private developers for Apple expected to be in attendance, and the workshops and presentations pretty much make this the place to be today for anyone hoping to get in on the Apple market. Of course, the iPhone is but a part of the action going on today, with the release of concrete info on Apple's Snow Leopard operating system to developers and the accompanying server OS. Whether you have a vested interest in the industry or are just a casual industry, this promises to be an interesting week for all things Apple.
