While many people may not book a trip to Las Vegas because of the gambling, most people report that they do gamble on a trip. The casual gambler plays some roulette, slot machines, and maybe a little Keno. But Keno is becoming more and more difficult to find in a casino in Las Vegas and slot machines are not what they used to be.
No longer can you rely on your favorite slot machine to pay off on only one line or up to three lines. With one of those machines, known as a "stepper," it was easy to see at first glance if you had won a jackpot. And while they are still around, especially in the United States, video slot machines are becoming more prevalent, especially on the international gambling scene.
Video slot machines are more complicated than the old steppers. Pay lines can go in every direction imaginable and pay up to 100 lines. And with the coin payout being replaced by TITO (ticket in, ticket out), the only clue you may have that you've won a jackpot is the number of credits listed.
Slot machines are becoming more prevalent and placed in every nook and cranny. Slot machines are quite profitable to the casino and are what many casual gamblers are more comfortable with, replacing less profitable venues such as Keno.
While properties are enlarging and expanding, they are mostly adding rooms to the property and not gambling space. Older properties must use whatever extra square footage they can find to add additional slot machines.
While some restaurants continue to survive year after year, the less popular restaurants find themselves being replaced with newer dining venues. The competition is fierce and with the addition of brand-new properties, older properties find themselves changing up the dining and entertainment options and sprucing up their image in the process.
While Las Vegas was luring families in the late 1990s, it's obvious those days are over. Las Vegas is making the most of its 'Sin City' moniker. Take a stroll through some casinos and you may be surprised by a scantily-clad dancer or singer hopping onto a nearby stage or the nearest slot machine and begin to perform in front of you.
Pool parties are becoming more and more popular with European-style sunbathing, meaning topless, and admission fees are being charged in special roped-off pool areas.
A visit to a casino today can be just as fun as it ever was. You just need to do a little research and be prepared for what types of experiences you may encounter.
