Today's Christianity, Conclusion: The Devil's Deceit
What If God and the Devil Are Real? Just a Supposition
And said: "I'm so bored I need something to do.
I've so far convinced that creature called man
That I don't exist, and that was my plan...
It's easy for me to just walk through the door,
Since they don't believe in God anymore.
Apartheid and slavery I did for a while,
And Holocaust, genocide, those make me smile.
Now enough people think that a baby's just tissue;
I'm tired of that being an ongoing issue.
So put on your thinking caps, demons, think long.
We need a new twist on what's right and what's wrong."
Then Legion stood up and said, "They'll take the bait
If we make them believe disagreeing is hate.
We'll start so many rumors of discrimination
That good common sense will just take a vacation.
We'll say that the Bible is all ancient news,
And tell them it's used as a tool to abuse.
To top it all off, we'll tell kids not to listen;
When their parents speak, too much fun they'll be missin'!
Then we'll make them elect some leaders who say
We must treat the terrorists nice every day.
While innocent blood turns their streets into sludge,
We'll convince them there's no good or bad to be judged.
Their egos are fragile, their consciences numb.
They won't know what hit them - from all sides we'll come."
"That's good, Legion," Satan remarked with a grin.
With demons like you, I think I can win."
But Satan, he knows in the back of his mind
That his fun can last just a limited time.
For one day, the sky will be splitting in two,
And judgment will come; some believe it - will you?

Post a CommentGreat poem, and this is coming from a guy whose not religous. The stanza about the elected leaders claiming that we have to "treat terrorists nice every day" and that there's "no good or bad" is especially relevant in today's politics.
This is great!
Excellent conclusion to an excellent series. Sheryl, I'm sure your articles have prompted many people to think about things in a broader way. Amen.
I want to read all of this! It's great..Thanks a lot!
Right between the eyes!...keep fighting the good fight!
Wonderfully written. I really enjoyed it. Each time someone like yourself sees through the deceit, it is a small triumph in the face of Satan. It is so true that the tatics used by Satan are progressively getting more bold. He has had many centuries to perfect his deception skills. As society gets further and further away from the ideals and morals that were once strong, Satan gains ground. I hope that we can all recognize the influence of Satan and guard against it. Look inside, the light of Christ is in everyone. It will tell you when something is right or wrong, and when it is of God or of Satan. Again Sheryl, a great piece thank you.
Excellent conclusion! You covered everything.
I agree with Eddie & April--fantastic and highly creative way to end your series! :) It reminded me of 1 Peter 5:8: "Be self-controlled and alert, for your enemy, the Devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour." (NIV). How true it is that we must constantly be on guard against the attacks and schemes our greatest Enemy!
Well, this was your all-time best, Sheryl. I heard yesterday that President Carter, a self-professing Christian, is now saying that all religions, including Christianity, are abusive to women. First, he goes oversees and puts down America, and now he puts down Christianity. Poor man.
Sheryl, I second Eddie. Good conclusion to a well-thought series. You've captured so many angles and modern issues in this series.
