Today's Lyrics- Whose Really at Fault for What's Out There?

Whose is Truly to Blame for the Lyrics and Images that We Call Music Today????

AJ WOODSON
Music business hate me cause the industry ain't make me
Hustlers and boosters embrace me and the music I be makin
I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars
They criticized me for it yet they all yell "HOLLA!"
If skills sold, truth be told, I'd probably be
lyrically, Talib Kweli
Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
But I did five mill' - I ain't been rhymin like Common since
When your cents got that much in common
And you been hustlin since, your inception
Forget perception go with what makes sense
Since I know what I'm up against
We as rappers must decide what's most impor-tant
And I can't help the poor if I'm one of them
So I got rich and gave back, to me that's the win/win
So next time you see the homey and his rims spin
Just know my mind is workin just like them...
... rims, that is
Moment Of Clarity- Jay Z

The purpose and presence of Jay Z's lyrics in in the beginning of this article was deliberate and to speak to several points. One this speaks to why some artists don't truly express what they feel in their lyrics, like they want. they 'dumb it down for dollars'.
Now one side of the story is that they don't hold their ground. They don't just take the chance despite what everyone else is doing. They cave in give the audience what they thing the audience wants instead of what it needs.
The other side of this argument is you the fans, the buying public who Jay addresses that he 'dumbed down for, to double his dollars'. Now this is meant to single Jay Z out, he is just the one who had the heart to talk about it on record but many of today's top chart toppers are guilty of the same. People alwasy say they want something different and they are tired of what is out there. But when they are presented with something different, they do not support ot, and run and give more of their hard earned dollars to support the very thing they claim they are tired of.
After all it is the fans who buy the records, are request the videos on MTV and BET and request the songs on ya local radio station. Yes its been said that is because that is what they are being forcefed by corporate America. Maybe, but let me tell you about corporate America, they do what make dollars even if it doesnt always make sense to you and I. So it the fans, the buying public took a stand and said we wont support this anymore and we wont request these songs and videos anymore. If the fans and buying public actually started to support to more positive music, the new genres like Holy Hip-Hop or Christian Rap, or what has been called positive or alternative rap, do you think corpaorate America will continue to put out gansta music of you dont buy it?

Of course there is the brainwashed argument that you hear the songs every 22 minutes you couldn't help but to sing along and feel the song. I wanna hear what all of you feel on the subject, the good the bad the ugly. We cant change the situation until we address it, here is your chance to have your say!
Until we take a stand, the fans and the buying public, stop buying and requesting the music. The journalist stop writing about music and artist they do not really feel for a paycheck. Let me put it this way, our president Barak Obama said in his many campaign speeches, you are the change you are looking for! I end this the way I started this, with this question. Thanx for the feedback Shamontiel. I totally agree, if enough people take a stand and don't buy it record companies will have to do something different. And there are far too many artist that give in and do music they dont totally feel to sell, while I do understand, I could never get with that!!!

Watch your contractions (ex. wont should be won't, cant should be can't), too. Outside of that, it is up to the buying public to take a stand on what they will and won't buy. It's the reason why I continue to complain and not support artists when I don't like their content. Some folks say I'm screaming on a soapbox. I couldn't give a damn. If I said it, I meant it. And if enough people don't buy it, record companies take notice. What bothers me more is artists who know they don't even respect what's flying out of their mouths but continue to rap about. Sell your soul, make some cash rapping about ass. *rolling my eyes*

You have to credit Jay for being ahead of the curve, as many true artists are. That his fans are not ready for it is their own fault. Personally, Jay has enough money and isn't making as much from rap as he is his other ventures, most of his money comes from touring, but I think he should speak his mind and forget about what fans want and expand his brand.

What people do not understand, is that Jay-Z is to rap what Ralph Lauren is to fashion. Sometimes he sells the most, sometimes he is the most consistent. Anyone who was into Ralph in the eighties and nineties realizes that he is basically doing the same thing now, what he was doing then. Jay-Z is no different, he has grown, and lyrically leaves people like TuPac and Biggie in the dust, but I would not take that to say that he has lost his integrity. Jay Z was never about that much to begin with.

His fans are at fault. He tried to switch it up but he was too "emo" for his fans. Irony of which Kanye West and Kid Cudi are masters at that artform. On the same token, that is not Jay-Z's strength, so he stays in his own lane and does what he does best and this is why he sells records. I don't think it is selling out though, but I understood the point he was making when I first heard that.
