Whether I'm refereeing fights over toys, movies, books, etc or I'm kissing away boo-boos and wiping away tears, parenting toddlers can be hard work, definitely a challenge, but definitely fun too! Okay, perhaps I don't quite enjoying taking a bath with Barbie or Lightening McQueen, but even that can become a welcome annoyance!
I admit it, I enjoy playing cars with my three year old, or playing dress-up with my four year old. Why? Because I miss being that age again, life was so simple back then, and I had so much fun with simple things. My toddlers have challenged every preconceived notion I've ever had about parenting. I've realized that sometimes the answer simply is "Because I wanted to." And it's perfectly okay to ask the question "Why?", even when someone else thinks the answer should be totally obvious!
Toddlers are what makes the hardest part of parenting worth it, they challenge us to see the world through different eyes, they force us to question the meaning of everything. And some of the things they say and do are just so darn cute!
I do admit to one major flaw with my parenting skills- I laugh too much, when I should be serious. When it comes to disciplining a toddler, sometimes you have no choice- it's either laugh or cry. Yes, I know I shouldn't laugh when they're misbehaving, but sometimes I just can't help myself. My toddlers have given me back my sense of humor- when it comes to motherhood, that's a plus. I just try not to let them see me laugh!
And I have one final confession to make- When it comes to my toddler children, I wouldn't trade them for any other part of motherhood for anything! They keep me sane, even when they drive me crazy. They keep me on my toes, and remind me that parenting isn't always what it's cracked up to be. Sometimes it's a lot more fun than that. Even when I have to explain fifteen different times why we don't flush an entire roll of toilet paper down the toilet!
