Keeping toddlers busy with fun activities can mean a fun time for the entire family. At this age, they are very eager to learn new things and try new things. Encourage them to learn and have fun at the same time. For many toddlers, their curiosity can be overwhelming. Toddler activities for star gazing can be very informative and educational. Not only that, it also serves to help them overcome their fear of the dark, a common problem among toddlers. Spending time outside the house and bonding with your toddlers is one way to spend quality time with the family. Consider the following for toddler activities for star gazing.
- Print a star chart from your computer to use while star gazing. Identify the important stars that help guide people with locations such as the North Star or the Southern Cross. These are also the reference points which are stable from which other stars revolve around. These marks shift a bit every season, as the earth tilts.
- Show your child a compass and explain to them directions. Allow your child to face the north direction and try to explain the concept of direction to them. You are orienting them to directions in an early stage which will help him become better with it as they grow up.
- You can also print a constellation chart from your computer. Having the printout, show your child how to look for the North Star or the Southern Cross. The North Star is positioned between the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia. Guide your child as they try and locate them.
- For every season, teach your child a different constellation in the southern sky. This will still be a great help in getting them more familiar with direction.
- Let you child witness a meteor shower. It is very fascinating and he will surely love it. Watch out for news reports on such events.
- Point out falling stars to your child. Tell them to make a wish. This makes it more fun to gaze at the stars at night.
- Watching the Milky Way against the summer sky can be breathtaking. Do this with your toddler and it will usually keep them amused for long periods of time.
