Tokyo Disneyland: Five Ways to Make Your Experience Magical and Unique

Tokyo Disneyland Has a Number of Hidden Mickeys Giggling Just Beneath the Surface

Kyle Greggory
When you enter Tokyo Disneyland in Japan, other than the fact that Main Street is covered by a giant canopy, you may at first be struck by the layout. It's spacious and organized, the castle is a beauty, and all your favorite rides are just a magical land away.

Don't be deceived by its apparent sameness, though, as Tokyo Disneyland has a lot to offer that the other Magic Kingdoms can only dream about.

This list is not exhaustive, but you might consider bumping some of these suggestions to the top of your priorities when you travel to Tokyo Disneyland. Especially if it's a unique experience you're after, a wave of the wand, and these five ideas are sure to do the trick!

Pooh's Hunny Hunt
Tokyo Disneyland's one-of-a-kind Pooh ride is a thrilling exploration of technology and the world of Winnie the Pooh. After waiting in the only queue you probably wish would never end, surrounded by larger-than-life pages from a story book, it's into the honey pot with you.

As your car wizzes and spins through the ride, whimsically independent of any sort of track to guide it, you'll witness the pages of the Pooh storybook come to life before your eyes.

Once you find yourself bouncing through the Hundred Acre Woods with Tigger, and dancing through an enchanted ballroom, though, you might have to pinch yourself just to make sure you aren't dreaming with Pooh. Without a doubt, Pooh's Hunny Hunt is a must-ride attraction at Tokyo Disneyland.

Eat the Snacks/Desserts
Not everything is about rides, especially at Tokyo Disneyland. The park has some pretty unique desserts that will leave you pondering until the end of time if you don't indulge in at least one of them.

Tokyo Disneyland is famous for its flavored popcorn. From odd flavors like black pepper popcorn and curry popcorn, to more traditional delights such as caramel popcorn, you will be intrigued by the curious flavors of this magical park. There's even honey flavored popcorn available near Pooh's Hunny Hunt.

Other options include the regular ice cream, pies, and churros. But even the churros here are unique. Where else can you find a honey-lemon churro, after all?

Space Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland
Space Mountain is pretty much the same throughout the world. But when you ride with a soundtrack, the ride seems a lot more thrilling than eerie. That's why it might be worth it to take a trip through space--the Tokyo Disneyland way.

Tokyo Disneyland is the only Disney park with a quiet Space Mountain. You heard right (Or did you?)!There is no soundtrack here. Just the howling of the wind rushing past your ears as you shoot full-speed into the darkness.

The feeling of this coaster is dramatically changed with just a minor adjustment, making for a unique experience that shouldn't be missed while you're at the park.

Shop at Tokyo Disneyland
While some of the merchandise sold in Japan is identical to that found in other Disney parks, Tokyo Disneyland does offer quite a selection of utterly unique, and altogether impressive Disney products.

The official Disney pins should be of particular interest to collectors, as they are often Tokyo Disneyland originals, and have the park's name engraved on the back.

But whether you're buying a collector's item or a souvenir for your loved ones, there are stores and kiosks packed full of quality Disney goods that you will not find elsewhere.

Western River Railroad
The Western River Railroad is Tokyo Disneyland's take on the steam-powered railroad. This train, however, is not like the others. Instead of circling the Magic Kingdom, it passes through a portion of it, and has only a single stop to both board and disembark.

By riding the Western River Railroad, you'll be given a tour of Critter Country, Frontierland, and Adventureland, and an unmatched view of the park, as well as some of the magic teeming in its caves and behind its walls. While the expedition is similar to that of other Disney railroads, the particulars are unparalleled, and the journey unmatched.

There is, of course, a list of experiences that every park-goer should pursue when visiting Tokyo Disneyland. The shows are spectacular, the rides overflow with that familiar Disney enchantment, and your wallet will likely end up bowing feebly to the delights of sweets, toys, and everything nice.

Plan your Tokyo Disneyland vacation first with everything you want to see. And when you want to add that unequivocal spice to your adventure, consider sprinkling your itinerary with these five uniquely Tokyo Disneyland ideas. No matter what you decide to do, though, rest assured that when you visit Tokyo Disneyland, it's just short of impossible to return without the greatest souvenir of all: joyous memories of a magical day.

Tokyo Disneyland is the reason I plan to visit Japan! I've been to the one in Paris, WDW and my home Disneyland California. Tokyo hopefully is next. I think I should go soon in case they add a soundtrack to their Space Mountain. They recently added it to WDW, hopefully they'll leave Tokyo's all natural :o).

    Thanks for the comment Erin!

Wow, I didn't know that about the Space Mountain in Paris! Thanks for pointing that out. Also, now I have to go there and ride it asap! Haha.

Also, three hours is far, but when I'm in Los Angeles, sometimes it takes three hours just to drive across town to get to Disneyland, lol. From that perspective, maybe a three hour flight is kind of close ;-).

I agree with you about the merchandise! And I'm definitely looking forward to trying the milk tea popcorn when I go to DisneySea, per your suggestion.

    Thanks for reading!

Ooops! It was supposed to say upside down (in regards to Paris' Space Mountain).

Nice article! Love the churros and popcorn (did you know DisneySEA has milk tea popcorn - my favorite!). I want to point out - I think the Space Mountain at Paris is the most different - it goes upside! I think I got a concussion the first time I rode it! LOL

These are great suggestions and I want to emphasize that the merchandise at Tokyo Disney is far superior than the other Parks. I grew up going to Disneyland and now call Tokyo and HK my "home" parks - the quality, the diversity, the new seasonal twists - they are just incredibly creative. The merchandise is typically why I fly out as often as I do.

I'm envious you're in Tokyo...it's an expensive 3 hour flight for me. :-)
