Tolerance

The Key to Proper Coexistance

Howard Roark
There isn't a day that goes by on this earth that someone doesn't point a finger at another person and downplay their existence. I am writing this article so I can hopefully change perhaps one person, maybe just that one single individual.
The typical person is a fairly religious person, and it usually plays quite a large role in a person's life. Such a large role in fact that not only can it inspire entire communities to serve one another, but it can have such a dominating effect on an individual that it can actually be taken so far that it is used to harm another human being who might differ slightly in beliefs. Whether it be through argumentation of religion or through a car bomb in Baghdad, religion can be taken too far. The simple solution that so many people cannot accept, is simply this. Tolerance. Tolerance is the key to a peaceful coexistence. Whether you are a devout Catholic or an Atheist, both can live morally good and successful lives.
Say there are two neighbors, one extremely religious and the other a simple agnostic.; if both are giving to their community and living good productive lives at work and with their family. Who is to say what person is right or wrong? Isn't human belief based upon living a good life, giving service, and helping your fellow man?
The true beauty of humanity and freedom is that we each have our different views, whether it be large or small, and the best part is that we can still respect one another.
The day we all start tolerating each others different beliefs is the day we start looking more into what we have in common. Tolerate your neighbor and respect their beliefs, because you would want them to do the same for you.
Our progress in society and as human beings in general, is entirely dependant on our ability to rise above our basic animal instincts and use our reason and intellect to help make a better world not only for ourselves, but more importantly for our children and their children. The greatness of humanity is our ability to learn from not only our mistakes, but the mistakes of our fathers.
So let us learn from the mistakes humanity is making today, the mistake of being intolerant and trying to take away our sacred freedom of choice. We need to understand that the reason we are able to believe the very things we hold so dear is because of freedom.
Intolerance is the key to spreading freedom, and the beauty of freedom is what enables us to rise above.

People tend to forget the little things in life, like the simple things we teach our children. We all need to take the time to find out what is truly best for society and act accordingly.

Thank you! I am surprised no noe has attacked you for this stance; I have posted a similar article, and they came from both the left and the right to tell me how wrong I am not to be totally on their side!
