Tom Cruise is Back with Smart New Movie Knight and Day

Tom Cruise is back and was chatting with Oprah recently and promoting his new movie Knight and Day in which he co-stars with Cameron Diaz. And no, there wasn't any couch jumping, so just settle down, people.

I saw the interview and must confess, he is still a very charming, ruggedly handsome and charismatic man. It's certainly not hard to see how Tom Cruise has become the international super star that he is. Particularly if you base his success on his looks alone. He looked fit, healthy and frankly, ageless.

Over the years, Tom has taken a few hits. But, well deserved, in my view. You may recall the interview with Matt Lauer, where Tom presumed to know the ins and outs of post-partum depression and what women should or shouldn't do about it. Needless to say, more than a few women were highly offended with Tom's ill-thought out and off the cuff remarks, not the least of whom was, Brooke Shields, who Tom was referring to when he let loose with his stupid comments.

Tom's religion, Scientology, has also taken a share of hits over the years as well. In one very bizarre piece of footage that hit the Internet a few years ago, Tom is discussing Scientology and the wonderful impact it has had on his life. The interview came off as a bizarre display of Tom laughing at seemingly nothing at all and rambling incoherently at times. Let's just say it was not one of Tom's best moments.

Since then, Tom has remarried (Katie Holmes), become a father for the third time, apologized to Brooke Shields and has learned to keep his mouth shut when it comes to matters that he will never understand. He still takes a few hits here and there regarding his religion, but overall, Tom seems to have regained some respect.

In fact, in a recent interview on the Craig Ferguson Show, where Craig had been dissing Tom during his monologue, Robert Downey, Jr. spoke up for his friend, saying that Tom has always had his back and had helped him through some very difficult times. Because of that, he wouldn't tolerate anyone "talking smack" about his friend. It was a poignant moment amid a generally silly interview, but, Craig Ferguson took the licks from Robert with grace and humor.

In the Oprah interview, Tom seemed comfortable and relaxed. But, he and Oprah are great friends, so maybe he felt safe. The trailers from Knight and Day were entertaining and from the looks of them Tom may have another box office hit on his hands.

Billed as an action/drama with a humorous twist, it's a genre where Tom Cruise always seems to shine. Cameron Diaz, is also quite good in this type of film. She knows how to bring just the right mix of street girl sass and ditzy blonde to a role that makes it smart, sexy and funny.

In spite of his odd and strange behavior at times, Tom Cruise is still, without a doubt, a bono-fide movie star and excellent actor.

Here's hoping Knight and Day does well for Tom and puts him right back on top where he clearly belongs. The movie is scheduled for release this summer.

I loved Valkyrie, The Firm, Jerry Maguire, Mission Impossible, The Last Samurai and other Tom Cruise movies. And I loved Knight & Day - I had so much fun. I am planning to go see it again. I find he is a good actor and I admire the man. Check my article here http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5538508/tom_cruise_definitley_deserves_success.html?cat=2
