Tom Sturridge Wants to Clear Something Up

Contrary to popular internet lore, he didn't find the script for Waiting for Forever on Robert Pattinson's floor, so stop asking. It's true that he found it on the floor, but it was at a female friend's house, and his fellow actor/friend of Twilight fame had nothing to do with it.

Sturridge says he has no idea how that rumor started circulating on the web, but he thinks it's pretty funny that every time he mentions the word "friend," the world automatically assumes it's Rob Pattinson. "Because I only have one friend," he says jokingly. But this British actor is poised to break out of Pattinson's shadow. Armed with quick wit and piercing blue eyes, Sturridge's charm almost redeems the film Waiting for Forever which The Hollywood Reporter recently described as "an ill-conceived romantic drama that's as sappy, vague and awkward as its title." Although the script has it's problems and an abundance of loose ends that are hard to overlook, Sturridge and co-star Rachel Bilson both played their characters with skill and heart.

Waiting for Forever follows Will Donner (Sturridge), a young vagabond who lives a simple life with no concrete plans other than to follow his childhood sweetheart, Emma Twist (Bilson), from city to city as she pursues an acting career. Director James Keach said finding the right actor to play the free spirited and childlike character of Will Donner took a year and was the most difficult role he's ever had to cast. "It's much easier casting Jesse James. It's much easier to cast the guy who's a fighter, a guy who's a cop, a guy who's a doctor, a guy who's a 'guy.'" Said Keach. "But where do you find an actor who can play vulnerability, accessibility, who can cry and still survive the streets?"

"We'd seen just about every young actor of this age in Hollywood but we couldn't find this character," Keach explained. That's when Tom Sturridge found the script. "He was staying with his buddy and there was a pile of scripts and he just read it and next thing we know (casting director) John Papsidera is saying there's this actor that CAA wants you to see...so he came in and he read." Keach was blown away by Sturridge's audition. 'He was 'the guy.'"

What's next for Tom Sturridge? He recently wrapped up a six month shoot filming Walter Salle's highly anticipated film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's On The Road starring Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Stewart. Keep your eye out for this Hollywood up and comer.
