As we pulled into Tommy's parking lot, we had actually been looking for a different restaurant, only to find out that it had recently closed and been replaced with Tommy's. After a brief visit to Tommy's website, my wife and I agreed to give it a try. After all, we were both hungry and aside from fast food, there didn't appear to be much else in the area.
Upon first stepping into the restaurant, we noticed a line of booths along the right side wall, each filled with customers. As we began to wonder where we would sit, our attention was immediately diverted to the large, soft and freshly baked chocolate-chip cookies sitting in Tommy's entry-way display case. I ordered a turkey club sandwich, a fountain drink and of course a cookie. Tommy then informed me that I could add a bag of chips for just 20 cents more, so I completed the meal. My wife on the other hand was eyeing the grilled cheese on the menu and asked if Tommy would customize her order. "Anything you want," he said. So she placed an order for an avocado and tomato grilled cheese sandwich.
We noticed a booth had clear out near the back of the restaurant, so we sat down and split our cookie and bag of chips. No more than three or four minutes after our order, Tommy brought our sandwiches to the table. Both were excellent. The club sandwich was filled with plenty of freshly sliced turkey, mayonnaise and crisp bacon and lettuce. The bread was slightly toasted and full of flavor. My wife's grilled cheese sandwich was bursting with color from the avocados and tomatoes, topped with melted cheese and placed inside lightly grilled bread. She raved about how fresh the tomatoes and avocados tasted, and both of our sandwiches quickly disappeared.
On the way out, we felt the need to thank Tommy for his excellent service and the quality of food we were served. Both the taste and the presentation were more than we could have hoped for upon first walking into the restaurant. After our meal, we planned on paying for a refill, but Tommy offered to fill up our fountain drink and didn't charge us a dime. Tommy's may not be the flashiest, biggest or most well-advertised deli in the greater Raleigh area, but it's certainly one of the best. The price of food is reasonable, and for the quality of ingredients and service, it can't be matched.
Thank you, Tommy. Next time my wife and I are in the area, we will be stopping by.
