I am so happy that Ashton Kutcher took on that duel with CNN over who will first reach a million followers on twitter. That duel, with all the publicity following it, has energized Kutcher's project to help end the battle against malaria in the world. As you probably heard, Kutcher donated 10,000 mosquito nets to help in the cause to fight malaria deaths.

Ending malaria in the world is of utmost importance to me personally, because as a native of Nigeria, I have experienced the illness firsthand. My relatives and friends who still reside there are constantly suffering from the illness. In fact, one of my brothers is just recovering from a bout with malaria. But malaria is not an African illness; it is a global epidemic ravaging many nations of Asia and Asia Pacific, South and Central America, the Middle East, as well as Europe.

Tomorrow, April 25, 2009, is World Malaria Day. It is a day that has been designated to make the world more aware of the over a million lives that are lost annually to malaria. Thanks to people like Ashton Kutcher, and our president Barack Obama, who are both vocal and active about this disease, a lot of people are gearing up for this year's commemoration.

The global world is targeting 31st December 2010 as the date to globally deliver "effective and affordable protection and treatment to all people at risk of malaria," said the United Nation Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. The Obama administration is targeting 2015 as the year to end deaths by this disease.

Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership is a global partnership that links companies, individuals, and governments worldwide to bring together their wealth of knowledge and experience, along with financial contributions to combat the detrimental effects of malaria. Controlling this endemic disease will alleviate the heavy loss of human lives, as well as billions of dollars in economic growth to nations directly and indirectly affected by malaria.
