Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash, Lavender Scent--A Product Review
An All-Natural Body Wash, but Does it Really Moisturize?
I had never tried any of the bath products from Tom's of Maine. When I saw Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash Lavender Scent at a local store, I knew immediately that I wanted to try it. Most of the feedback I have heard from this company's products has been good. I expected Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash to be a fabulous body wash. I was a little bit disappointed.
First the Good-
The design of the Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash is modeled after some of the shampoo and conditioner companies that have introduced the "upside-down" bottle. I like this feature, as it makes using the product much easier and cuts out the step of turning a bottle upside down and sometimes having to wait on the product to ease down to the other end. The bottle design is a huge plus in my opinion. It also has an easy to open flip top cap.
The scent is the second big pro of this product. Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash smells fresh and has a hint of lavender scent. The scent is light and refreshing, and one that most people will enjoy. This scent is great for the entire family too, as the scent doesn't linger on your skin. Men won't have to fret or worry about exiting the shower smelling like flowers.
Tom's of Maine produces a line of products made of all natural ingredients, this one is no exception. This body wash contains wheat proteins, coconut and palm soaps as the main ingredients that are responsible for moisture and cleansing. This product is free of chemicals and other harsh ingredients that could be potentially dangerous to your health if used for prolonged periods.
And now the Bad-
The formula of Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash is a good bit thinner than I like. I found that I used twice as much of this product over other brands of body wash that I also enjoy. This doesn't make the product easy on the pocketbook if you are going to use twice as much.
I also noticed that Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash did not lather as well as my other favorite body washes. This could be due to the water softness/hardness, but I don't usually have a problem with other products not lathering. It could also be due to the natural ingredients.
Tom's of Maine products are also not readily available in stores in my area. Most grocery stores do not carry this brand, nor do the mass merchandising stores. I just happened upon this bottle at Hudson's Dirt Cheap. I paid approximately ½ retail price for it, $2.50. The normal retail price is around $5.99 a bottle, which is a reasonable amount for an all natural product and comparable to other brands on the market of the same size bottle.
Last, I found that this product did not moisturize my skin as well as I expected it to do. It also fell short of other products I use that cost the same amount or less than this one.
Ingredients:
Water, soap of coconut oil, soap of palm or palm kernel oil, glycerin, coco-glucoside, sodium chloride, sucrose cocoate, lavender and other natural oils, hydrolyzed wheat protein and hydrolyzed wheat gluten, potassium phytate.
Final Thoughts-
Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash in Lavender was disappointing to me. The lavender scent was nice and enjoyable but the performance just didn't cut it. Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash failed to lather well and did not moisturize my skin as well as other leading brands of body wash. I don't mind paying a bit more for a product that uses all natural ingredients, but I expect the product to work as advertised.
Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash in Lavender comes in an 11.15 fl. oz. bottle. It is also available in an unscented formula. It can be purchased online directly from Tom's of Maine or from drugstore.com
Rating-
I give Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Wash in Lavender 2 out of 5 stars. It is a good concept and had a nice light scent but failed to lather well and also failed the moisture test.

Post a CommentToo bad, I like body wash that actually lathers up :)
Love lavender!
Lavender is among my favorite scents. What a shame this one didn't measure up.

Thanks for the "honest" review of this product. Sometimes we tend to sugarcoat and then it ends up to be a big disappointment.
Excellent... :o)
Page Love! :p)
My sister makes her own soaps and lotions, and I have the same issue with them too. I use twice as much to get the job done. They don't deliver the softness of the non-natural soaps either. Great review
Fantastic review
I wasn't impressed with Tom either.
