Tom's Natural Whole Care Gel Toothpaste in "Peppermint"

The Pen
I ran out of my go to toothpaste by Colgate a couple of weeks ago so I went to Walgreen's and decided to pick up a tube by Tom's of Maine because I hadn't tried anything by the brand in awhile, but I liked their toothpastes.

I decided to get the Natural Whole Care Gel because I'd only used their creamy toothpastes in the past, and I wanted to switch it up. I would've preferred another flavor besides Peppermint, but it was the only flavor the store carried.

Price of
Tom's Natural Whole Care Peppermint Gel Toothpaste

I paid $5.79 for a 5.5 oz tube.

Tom's Natural Whole Care Peppermint Gel Toothpaste

A tube contains the active ingredient of sodium fluoride. The inactive ingredients include sorbitol, hydrated silica, water, glycerin, xylitol, peppermint oil, sodium lauryl sulfate, zinc citrate trihydrate, and xanthan gum.

Claims for
Tom's Natural Whole Care Peppermint Gel Toothpaste

Tom's of Maine Claims that Whole Care is supposed to help prevent cavities with fluroride, control tartar with zinc citrate, whiten teeth with silica not bleach, and leave the mouth feeling fresh and clean with peppermint oil.

Texture of
Tom's Natural Whole Care Peppermint Gel Toothpaste

After using this I found that it's not as thick in consistency as other gel toothpastes I've tried by other brands. I liked that it was thinner because it didn't leave a heavy film behind so my mouth felt really clean.

But because it was more watery sometimes one stripe across my toothbrush doesn't produce enough lather to clean all of my teeth, so I usually have to add more mid-brushing to clean them thoroughly at all angles.

Taste of
Tom's Natural Whole Care Peppermint Gel Toothpaste

I thought I would hate the peppermint flavor, but it's not as strong as I expected. The minerals in the paste add a chalky flavor that tones the intensity down slightly, but it's still powerful enough to leave my mouth feeling really cool and clean. It's really refreshing to use first thing in the morning.

Overall, I like the taste of this way better than minty flavors by Colgate, Crest, and Aquafresh. The natural minty, chalky, and slightly sweet taste of the xylitol just tastes fresher.

Results After Using
Tom's Natural Whole Care Peppermint Gel Toothpaste

I've noticed no changes in the color of my teeth, so I don't think it's great for whitening, but my teeth feel so squeaky clean since I've been using Whole Care. Plus the peppermint oil makes my mouth feel and smell clean, and the moistness of this gel doesn't dry my mouth out and I noticed that my breath remains fresh for hours after I've brushed.

In the End...

A little doesn't go along way with this toothpaste, but it surpasses most mainstream brands in taste, texture, and in keeping the breath fresh. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
