I didn't look at too many reviews my choice was pretty much totally based on price. I found the Tom Tom XL 330 TTS for under $100. What was even better all the stuff I got for the price.
The Tom Tom XL 330 has a 4.3 inch touch screen which is a good size. The mounting system that came with the GPS works well. Sometimes it comes undone but not too often. The system was ready right out of the box.
It comes preloaded with US and Canada maps. With TomTom, you are guaranteed the most up to date map. If it's not already on your GPS you can download it for free. It also has millions of points of interests (banks, gas stations, entertainment, hospitals, etc) and a help me feature provides emergency numbers for the area you are in. I think that's a very smart feature. You can set your home address and favorites. It stores previous addresses for quick finding in case it's needed again.
TomTom Home is a program for your computer that comes with the system. Here you can personalize. You can create your own POIs, rename streets, and create a route planner. You can also download different colored maps, vehicle icons, voices or pictures. You can get the impressions of famous people for free or you can buy the actual voice. You can buy Mr. T or Homer Simpson's voice plus more to direct you on where you're going. I thought that was neat! I downloaded some free impressions and they are ok.You can also buy features here like real time HD updates on traffic, safety, speed cameras, fuel prices and more.
A feature that I loved about the XL 330 TTS is the TTS. That means Text to Speech. This means that even the street names are spoken. Unfortunately the only voice that does this is the computer voice. I also liked that it gave you a warning just before your turn and right when you needed to turn. Any other voice just says the directions.
The only drawback that I've had is the signal. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for it to pick up the signal. I'm sure this would can an inconvenience if you were in a big city. There is no place for a memory card but that wasn't important to us.
Overall I would recommend this GPS. It's not too complicated to use. It's limited on features but helps you to get from point A to B. I'm sure there are plenty more with all the bells and whistles but this one was perfect for us.
4 out of 5 stars
