This poem came about as a result of an assignment given in a writing class that I attended. The topic was, "It's all in my head," and having had a very busy week coming up to the deadline, I had absolutely nothing in mind for it. That is, until I started thinking about all the things that were in my head ... no, not the thoughts in there, but the physical parts of the brain. It didn't take long for this poem to emerge, and it wasn't even that hard to write it as a rhyming poem. However, if pressed about it, I will admit that it took a lot of thought to come up with "spinach frittata" to rhyme with "oblongata."
Brain Skid
Neurons, synapses,
And matters most grayish.
Memories of dinners
And mignon, filet-ish.
A pre-fontal lobe
That needs some attention.
Corpus callosum
Too nervous to mention.
Medulla that's missing
Its own oblongata.
Brain stem that's
Longing for spinach frittata.
Right and left hemispheres
That are in bed.
Can't write much more;
It's all in my head.
