Tony Awards: 64th Annual Tony Awards a Star Studded Event

The 2010 Tony Awards honored the best of Broadway last night. The big story of the 2010 Tony's was not to be found in a specific play or production, but instead was found in the incredible number of "stars" who were not only in attendance, but more importantly were nominated and in many cases took home Tony awards. Here is a look at the 2010 Tony Award winners.

Best Musical Tony went to Memphis

The Broadway rock and roll musical Memphis took top honors of the night winning the coveted Tony for best musical. The musical beat out rivals American Idiot, Million Dollar Quartet and Fela!. The Tony award for best revival of a musical went to La Cage Au Faux.

Red Won a Tony Award for Best Play

The British production Red was one of the night's big winners. The British play won a Tony for best play as well as five other Tony awards. August Wilson's Fences was another big winner, taking home the Tony award for best revival of a play.

Catherine Zeta- Jones Wins Tony for Best Actress in a Musical

Catherine Zeta-Jones took home a Tony award for best actress in a musical for her role as siren, Desiree Armfelt in the revival of Steven Sondheim's A Little Night Music. This was Catherine Zeta-Jones' Broadway debut and is an example of how Hollywood stars dominated the 2010 Tony Awards. Jones showed much excitement in her acceptance speech, pointing to her "movie star" husband, Michael Douglas in the audience and announcing that she "gets to sleep with him every night". Douglas Hodge took home a Tony for Best Actor in a musical for his role (also his Broadway debut) in La Cage aux Folles.

Denzel Washington Wins a Tony for Role in Fences

Both Denzel Washington and Co-star, Viola Davis took home Tony Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress for their roles in August Wilson's powerful play Fences. Viola Davis also gave perhaps the night's best speech, attributing her success not to chance or luck but to the presence of God in her life. Scarlett Johansson also won a Tony for her role in the revival of Arthur Miller's View from a Bridge.
