Tony Snow Death Anniversary Honored Today

Robert Dougherty
Tony Snow was one of the many White House press secretaries in the Bush years, but Tony Snow is perhaps the most remembered. That is partly because Tony Snow had to leave the post due to the cancer that would eventually kill him. Tony Snow died a year ago today, after a long career in politics and in news. Today, on the anniversary of Tony Snow's death, his friends at FOX News are planning a day-long tribute, with many of Snow's famous co-workers also sending their tributes.

Tony Snow first gained major fame as one of FOX News's most well known pundits, as he worked at FOX News from the beginning back in 1996 as the first host of "FOX News Sunday." Eventually, the White House came calling and picked Snow as the newest White House press secretary in 2006.

This was not his first White House job, as Snow became a director of speech writing during the first Bush administration. President George H.W. Bush hired Snow after he had spent years as a syndicated columnist. Over 15 years later, Snow would return to the White House after years as a television pundit, making the switch from the media to the political front lines again.

Snow was the third of four White House press secretaries during the Bush administration, and many liberals likely snickered at how Bush picked a pundit from the Bush-friendly FOX News to take the job. But few were laughing when Snow had to step down due to cancer 17 months later.

Tony Show had already been diagnosed with colon cancer in 2005, having undergone months of chemo before taking the press secretary job. When the cancer returned in 2007, Snow resigned months later.

Snow was pronounced dead from cancer on July 12, 2008. One year later, his old colleagues are keeping Snow's memory alive today.

FOX News will bring up Tony Snow throughout today's programming, as well as broadcast special video tributes from various friends and colleagues. Presidents George H.W and W. Bush, along with Bill O'Reily and Greta Van Susteren, will contribute some special words to honor Snow during the day.

Conservatives, FOX watchers and Snow fans will be mourning along side them, as Snow's memory is still being kept alive a year later.
