There are many projects you can crochet in the warmer spring and summer months that won't leave you sweltering. If you usually crochet afghans and baby blankets but don't crochet during the summer because they're too hot and bulky, maybe now's the time to branch out to something different.
Too Hot to Crochet? Think Small
Scarves and hats are small enough that they shouldn't add to your misery in the heat, so there's no need to go through summertime crochet withdrawal. Keep a skein of yarn and your favorite size hook on hand to whip out a few hats or scarves during the warmer months and you'll have a good supply on hand to donate this winter or give as gifts for the holidays.
Crochet dishcloths are always a welcome gift, so pick up some kitchen cotton yarn in bright colors for a bit of summer splash. Patterns for crochet dishcloths can double as luxurious washcloths for gentle exfoliating, so make enough to have on hand to toss into a gift basket for that summer birthday or spring wedding shower.
Too Hot to Crochet? Use Your Head - Use Thread
Many who crochet prefer to stick with one medium, either yarn or thread. If you normally work with yarn, summer is the optimum time to break out the smaller crochet hook and ball of thread and try your hand at simple doilies, sachets - even jewelry.
If you like to make clothing items, instead of a warm hat or scarf, crochet a tank top, bikini or maybe a cute sundress for the newest granddaughter.
Too Hot to Crochet? Go Granny, Go!
If your first love of crochet still leans toward the larger projects like afghans and baby blankets - go granny!
Smaller granny squares are a cinch to work up in summer without adding to the heat. Knock out however many granny squares you'll need to complete your blanket then put them aside to piece together during the time of year when you'll appreciate the extra warmth on your lap.
Don't let your love of crochet be sidelined during the heat of summer. Save your larger yarn crafts for snuggling on the couch when added warmth is more welcome, and think of crochet projects that can help you keep your cool.

This a great angle for a crochet topic. Even though I don't crochet, as soon as you mentioned crocheting in the summer, I imagined being buried under a blanket. Your article convinced me that there are ways to crochet and still be comfortable. Again, brilliant idea for a crochet-related topic!
My Grandma was a whiz at this. I wish she would have taught me.
