Too Little Too Late: Self-Improvement Now Not Later

Dougie Lloyd
Because of our inherent fear of change, we have resigned ourselves to doing the same things over and over. We have literally become robots in our own little worlds. We are stuck in what seems like a never-ending loop. More often than not, we realize too late that there is something wrong, not with the people around us, but within ourselves. It is time to break out of the loop and start on the journey to self-improvement.

Quite frequently, people have made the stunning discovery that something is not right. It may have started with a few people ignoring you or avoiding you. It will have radiated out, including more and more people until you have become a social outcast. This is the point when most people realize that there may be something wrong with them - and it's too late for damage control.

You need to start working on yourself now, before it is too late. To do this, you first have to take a good, long look at yourself. Think of yourself as an outsider looking in. think about the things that you do and how you act. Think about how you react to pressure and high levels of stress. When each of these aspects are out of whack, even the slightest it, your whole life suffers. It's like the domino effect: one domino will knock all of them down.

To begin your self-improvement journey, you should first direct your attention inward. You should learns ways to combat stress, relax better, and maintain a positive attitude. When you have the confidence that comes from these attributes, you will often notice that people will want to be around you more, instead of running from you.

The next step that you should work on is your social skills. This one may require more work, mainly because it takes time and effort. If you have managed to change your attitude, it should be fairly easy. You may not become a social guru right away, but you can expect to see more invitations to social gatherings.

Somewhere withing the mix, you should be working on your time management skills. Time management is necessary in order to keep yourself from getting overworked and extremely stressed out. In the beginning, you should limit your obligations to only what is absolutely necessary in your professional and personal life. When you have learned to balance everything, you can start to get more involved.

Self-improvement is about accepting and implementing change. When you have finally started to see results, you will wonder why you waited so long. Time and patience will help you persevere and rise above it all.
