The prospect of a new 13,000-square-foot grocery store on the ground floor of Toren Tower really is no prospect at all, even if they should land a high-end grocery store. Considering a 55,000-square-foot ShopRite is going to be just up the road in the old Navy Yard in less than a couple of years, and Pathmark is just down the road, too, any new grocery store in the building is going to be just as redundant as the property name --Toren is Dutch for tower -- and isn't going to last too long.

The Toren's 240 units, which as of yet nor in the foreseeable future will be completely filled, aren't going to sustain a full-service grocery store, either, and neither will it generate business from the other nearby, half-empty luxury condominium towers since there's no available parking and the area isn't exactly conducive to foot traffic.
