Too Short's Get Off the Stage Offers Nothing Deep, But Fans Will Love It

Too Short is one of the pioneers of Bay Area rap. He is known for his very sexually explicit lyrics. However, the younger generation might know him from his mentoring of Kendra Wilkerson on the MTV show Celebrity Rap Star. Now Too Short is prepared to drop his newest effort, Get Off The Stage. Will Too Short be able to capitalize on his newfound prominence to release a successful commercial album?

The title track Get Off The Stage sounds like it was made for a Southern rap artist. Too Short's flow does not always go with the beat on this track. The song is simplistic enough and nothing really spectacular.

Dum Ditty Dum teams Too Short with his protégés The Pack. The song sounds like a traditional Pack song. The song features a fairly catchy beat but the nonsensical chorus just makes no sense whatsoever.

This My One teams Too Short with fellow Bay Area legend E-40. E-40 as usual delivers his trademark flow which is well known almost everywhere. The song features a pretty simplistic beat which almost sounds hollow.

Broke Chick is funny in concept however; the concept just does not deliver. The beat even borders on annoying.

Pull Them Panties Down featuring Kool Ace is definitely one of the most ridiculous songs in recent memory. The lyrics like most of the tracks on the album are so explicit even the most hardcore rap fans will blush.

I Like It features Dolla Will. The song is one of the catchier tracks on the album. The beat is simple and repetitive but it is fairly solid. The song is definitely not setting off any rocket ships lyrically. The song is also one of the most explicit rap songs in recent memory. You will never be able to clean this song enough for the radio.

Gangstas & Strippers like I Like It is one of the most explicit tracks in recent memory. It is surprising how Jive would even release a record like this. The song besides its explicit content is not memorable at all.

On Get Off The Stage, Too Short remains true to who he is. Do not purchase this album if you are looking for deep metaphoric rhymes. If you purchase Get Off The Stage, you know what you are getting. For fans of Too Short, this album gets 8 out of 10. For everyone else, the effort gets 6.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Too Short, pick up his new album Get Off The Stage when it is available in stores.
