Tooth Tattoos

What is It?

Tooth tattoos have been around for quite a while but are still little known of. Anything at all can be etched on a tooth with a good steady hand. They are a kind of "white collar tattoo". They are seen only when the wearer wants to show them. Usually the tattoos are drawn on a back molar, either on the cheek side or the tongue side. They take the artist an average of thirty minutes per tooth but can take anywhere from a couple minutes to an hour, and go for about 75.00 - 500.00 depending on the artist and the complexity of the design. The tats are usually etched onto a replacement crown before it is put in to the mouth but some will intentionally have a tooth removed just for this purpose.

So how do they do it? They use porcelain that has been baked onto the tooth's enamel surface. A very high temperature is used for the baking. This ensures that the tattoo stays visible and clear. Unlike skin tattoos, a tooth tattoo can be removed if the client no longer likes or wants it. Removal takes only a minute or two. This process began in forensic science for teeth that needed to be marked permanently, as evidence. There is also a temporary version for kids or adults in the decision making process. Tooth tattoos may be placed in more visible places as a trendy, show off kind of thing, much like the grillz made popular by rappers.Heward Dental Lab custom designs these for customers. The folks at Heward Dental Lab are pioneers in the tooth tattooing trend and carry a very good reputation. link- www.toothartist.com/
