With spring comes every woman's need to update her makeup collection. A big part of makeup replacement is reorganizing or purchasing of new beauty tools. Makeup brushes allow for applying beauty products, creating fine and polished looks as well as accentuating our natural beauties. Makeup brushes do not last forever and can be costly. Update your makeup applicators and brushes easily with a list of effective and affordable tools.

Clinique Eye Shadow Brush (here)
This eye shadow brush is my favorite for every day makeup application. The brush is small yet effective in applying eye shadow to eyelids and blends shades of color well. I particularly like that it does not apply eye shadow in excess. I shake the brush off, be it solid or mineral eye shadow, and any excess falls right off. This particular feature is nice when I am applying and blending more than one color. Clinique Eye Shadow Brush is just one of the many Clinique brushes that I use. I find this brand the easiest to clean and keep hygienic.

Clinique Eye Contour Brush (here)
Similar to the eye shadow brush, this particular model smudges and applies eye shadow to corners. I use it with darker shades to create depth, similar to smoky eye effect, and to blend colors lines further. Much like the eye shadow brush, the contour brush cleans very well.

Orglamix Dual Eye Line -N- Define Makeup Brush (here)
I received this brush with a smoky effect eye shadow set. It works excellent with pure mineral eye shadows. The dual tip allows for precision and blending of more than one color.

Stila Smudge Pot Brush (here)
Smudge Pot Brush is a double applicator designed to apply Stila's creamy Smudge Pots. I have found this particular brush to be very effective in creating the smoky eye effect even with solid and mineral eye shadows. I use it each time I wish to create such a look, so it is certainly not limited to creamy eye shadow products. One side of the brush acts like an eyeliner brush. I use it with Clinique creamy eyeliners, as it draws a precise line and I can control thickness or length of it. I use the other side to smudge colors or eyeliner.

Sephora Retractable Foundation Brush (here)
I bought the original non-retractable brush years ago when I first started wearing MAC liquid foundation. This brush works the same but is retractable and easy to take to work or for trips. I particularly like this foundation brush because of the value, name brands are excessively pricey, but also because it blends liquid foundation without streaking. I have always applied MAC liquid foundation with it and to satisfactory results.

Benefit Cosmetics Slant Powder Brush (here)
This is an effective yet super soft powder brush. I also use it to apply finishing veils and brushes. I love the fact that this slanted brush applies blush with perfection. It is a good value and lasts. The brush allows for color blending for wearing blush and bronzer at the same time.

Eco Tools Bamboo 5 Piece Brush Set (here)
I purchased this set when I needed new makeup brushes but refused to spend outrageous amount of money for high-end products. I like that this set includes five makeup brushes for an affordable price; large powder blush, eye shadow, eyeliner, eyebrow and lash groomer and concealer brush.

Kashuk Tools Travel Kabuki Brush (here)
Every woman needs a Kabuki brush. A Kabuki brush is versatile and applies different powders such as a foundation, blush or bronzer. I prefer this travel brush because it is combat, durable yet effective in applying makeup products.

ULTA Kabuki Brush (here)
This brush is small yet so effective in applying powdered beauty products. I have found this brush to be easy to hold and I believe its small size allows for better powder application control. It is also great for using a face highlighter or an all over bronzer.

Disposable Mascara Wands
A great look is not complete without mascara. A good mascara brush creates length, adds volume and gives eyelashes a healthy appearance. I always buy a pack of disposable mascara wands in order to polish off a dramatic look or just to touch up my favorite mascara. Using a disposable wand helps to remove clumps and really makes eyelashes stand out.

Cotton Swabs
A cotton swab is considered a makeup brush or applicator. It most certainly is. Every woman should have this tool in her makeup collection. I use cotton swabs to clean up run away eye shadow or to smudge eye pencils. In addition, such a versatile tool applies a concealer and blends a lip liner.

I have the retractable brush and find it really handy. Never thought about using cotton swabs as a makeup brush or to clean away smudged eye makeup. Thanks for the tip!

How often should you purchase new brushes? I generally wash mine and only purchase new ones about once a year.
