Animaniacs - This is by far one of my favorite cartoons of the 90's, with characters like Hello Nurse, Pinky and the Brain, Chicken Boo, and the Goodfeathers. But how could the Warner siblings and their friends be brought together in a movie? Well, I think this film could do something groundbreaking when it comes to animated movies: combine CGI, traditionally animated cartoons, and live action. The hand-drawn Warners could interact with real celebrities much like they did in the cartoons, and CGI could be brought in as part of the plot, with a diabolical plan to replace all traditional Warner characters with CGI "clones". Sure it would be wacky, but definitely fitting for one of the zaniest cartoons of the 90's.
Tiny Toon Adventures - This is one of the best cartoons of the 90's that I miss most, with a large cast of characters and a fresh new take on Bugs Bunny's world. It's another of the best cartoons of the 90's that it would be hard for a movie to do justice to, but I think it would be fun to try. However, I'd prefer not to see the gang in CGI and don't think we need another 'Space Jam', and since it is refreshing to see traditionally animated movies every now and then, I think it would be best here. But what about the plot? Well, the Tiny Toons gang are in toon school, so perhaps they could be divided up into four groups and partake in a toon tournament full of fun challenges (a la the Triwizard Tournament). Since this is one of the best cartoons of the 90's that I miss most, this is one of the animated movies here that I'd really love to see given a chance.
Darkwing Duck - The shadow that quacks in the night was responsible for bringing us one of the best superhero cartoons of the 90's, and, with the recent superhero craze, I think Darkwing's antics would be perfect for some animated superhero movies aimed at the kids. With a plethora of kooky villains, this could be turned into a whole series of animated movies for kids that are too young for more violent superhero fare, and there's lots of potential for spoofs of the Batman movies that their parents will enjoy. It's one of the best cartoons of the 90's, and it's a real shame that the days of great cartoons starring animated ducks seem to be over.
Daria - This is one of the best 90's cartoons here that I think has potential to be turned into a live-action movie. Forget 'Juno' and MTV's live-action series 'My Life as Liz'; give the original snarky teen her own live-action movie! I'm not sure what exactly the plot could be, but it would just be awesome to see Daria's take on modern teen crazes like 'Twilight' and 'Jersey Shore', and I'd love to see who would get cast as the show's main characters. With all the teen movies out there full of guys trying to get laid, it would refreshing to see a girl like Daria take center stage in a live-action take on one of the 90's cartoons that many of us gals miss most.
The Tick - Here's another of the best 90's superhero cartoons for turning into a few great movies. However, I'd love to see a live-action Tick movie (like the live-action TV series, but executed even better). With his battle cry of "Spoon!" and villains like Batman parody Die Fledermaus and Rain Man-like Sewer Urchin, these hilarious 90's cartoons could create the series of comedic superhero movies Hollywood is in dire need of. It's just a shame a young Bruce Campbell couldn't be cast in the role; then I think I'd be crying "Swoon!".
Gargoyles - And here's one of the best dramatic 90's cartoons for making into a series of CGI animated movies. Could you imagine how amazing these living statues could be made to look with modern technology? Add mythology, Shakespearian elements, magic, and modern technology like robots and laser guns, and you've got one of the 90's cartoons here that could be made into animated movies that would be sure-fire hits. Forget remakes, Hollywood, and start bringing these stone statues and their wild world to life!
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters - Here's one of the 90's cartoons that Tim Burton could take on, a fun series about monsters attending scare school in order to learn how to appropriately scare children. I know it's a bit like 'Monsters, Inc.', but the monsters here aren't as cute and cuddly (just look at Krumm, who has to hold his own eyeballs in his hands), and the cartoons just have a much darker feel. I'd love to see scaredy-cat Ickis and the gang trying to scare up some scares again, and with our love of all things monstrous and dark lately, this is another of the 90's cartoons here that I think could be turned into a successful animated movie.
The Critic - Here's one of the best 90's cartoons aimed at adults that I would love to see at the movies in live-action, and I think Paul Giamatti would be perfect for the role of a loser film critic whose life starts to mimic the movies he critiques with hilarious results. I'd love to see someone take one of my favorite 90's cartoons and really turn them into a live-action movie that's worth watching, and I think I'd really love to see this one (especially if it was loaded with references from classic movies).
Doug - There just aren't enough live-action movies starring kids out there, and I think the show starring Beets fan and Patti Mayonnaise-loving misfit Doug and his many alter egos would be one of the best cartoons of the 90's to turn into a few live-action movies for kids. With his imaginative secret identities, including that of superhero Quailman and spoofs of Indiana Jones and 007, I think this is one of the "Funnie" cartoons of 90's that could be turned into one great kids' movie.
Dexter's Laboratory - And here's another of the 90's cartoons here I could see being turned into a great live-action movie starring kids. It would be pretty amazing to see Dexter's astonishing lab brought to life, although it would take two talented kids to play him and his annoying pretty pretty princess of a sister Dee Dee. The plot would be easy to come up with, however; Dee Dee could just royally screw up one of Dexter's experiments and he would have to try to save the day, with help from Monkey, of course. With special effects galore and an awesome lab to explore, I think science-loving kids would really enjoy seeing one of the best cartoons of the 90's brought to life.
So from animated movies for kids to live-action movies that the whole family would enjoy, these are the cartoons of the 90's that I'd most like to see in movie form (although I'd have to be praying that Hollywood would get it right for once).
