Top 10 Best Action Movies

Action movies are about a hero or heroine that is thrust into a situation filled with fights, chases and physical feats. My choices for the top 10 best action movies are movies filled with a lot of action and in some cases the action starts right at the very beginning of the movie. The story line of an action movie is not nearly as important as the action scenes in the movie. Action movies also are usually closely tied to the thriller and adventure genres. There have been many great action movies throughout the history of movie making.

How did I decide what movies would make my top 10 list? I chose movies that are action packed, movies that left such an impression on me that I never forgot them, movies that I have watched more than twice and enjoyed them each time and lastly, movies that I recommended to other people as a can't miss movie. With this list of the top 10 best action movies you are sure to find a movie you will love and that will keep you on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what will happen next.

10) District 9 - 2009 - District 9 is not your typical alien movie. There is a lot of action and suspense, but there are also thought provoking story lines. This movie really draws out your emotions. It is my favorite movie about aliens ever.

9) Black Hawk Down - 2001 - Black Hawk Down is the true story of the United States' involvement in Somalia during an ill-fated humanitarian mission. This is probably one of he best combat war movies I have ever watched. It has plenty of action from start to finish and is filled with spectacular visuals.

8) Con Air - 1997 - Con Air is an excellent action movie. A group of dangerous criminals are being transferred to a new super security prison. A mid-air hijack has been put into action. The hero's of the movie must find a way to get the plane back under their control before their superiors decide to shoot down the aircraft and all of its passengers. I have no complaints at all about this movie it is truly deserving of being in the top 10 best action movies list.

7) The Dark Knight - 2008 - The best ever Batman movie is The Dark Knight. You will see Batman in a whole new light as he battles the line between hero and vigilante. The Dark Knight is not what you would expect from a Batman movie. I was truly surprised by this movie. I have never been much of fan of previous Batman movies however this movie kept my attention from start to finish.

6) The Expendables - 2010 - I just saw this movie for the first time the other night and I was completely impressed. Many of the great action hero's join forces or they are on opposite sides in this action packed movie. While I wish they would have gone a little deeper into the storyline of rescuing the girl, it does not take away from the great action fights in this. If you enjoy seeing the tops of bodies being blown off or someone's neck being broken backwards then this is just the right movie for you. The action during the fighting scenes is some of the best I have ever seen and the visuals are sure to stay in your mind for awhile. Stallone proves once again why he is a great actor and one of the best action stars ever.

5) Cliffhanger - 1993 - Another great action movie that stars Sylvester Stallone is Cliffhanger which is the story of a mountain rescue team. The leader looses his nerve after watching an amateur climber fall to her death. But a group of fugitives crash in the mountains and take his former climbing partner and ex-girlfriend hostage and he must overcome his fears to rescue them. This movie is action right from the start and delivers exactly what an action movie should. You will be so absorbed in this movie you will ignore phone calls and doorbells. I saw this movie when it came out in 1993 and it is still one of my favorites and one I will never forget or grow tired of watching.

4) Rambo - 2008 - The newest Rambo to date is also the best. Not only is it the most gruesome Rambo movie ever it is also the most meaningful and heart felt Rambo movie. The movie is about a group of missionaries that are helping people who are in the middle of genocide. The missionaries get in trouble. Rambo ( Stallone) has to go and help them. The movie is filled with action and a great storyline. If you have not saw this movie go rent it now.

3) Eagle Eye - 2008 - if you love fast paced, action packed films then Eagle Eye is the film for you. I am sure this film will be on the top 10 best action movies list of all action movie lovers.

2 ) Speed - 1994 - Speed is without a doubt an action movie that left a lasting impression on me. Imagine being on a bus and a bomb is under the bus and it will go off if the bus goes below 50 MPH. That is exactly what Speed is about. No matter what happens the driver of the bus can not stop and he can not let the bus drop below 50 MPH. The driver must go around or through any obstacles in his way. Speed is action packed and fast paced and Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are great together.

1) 2012 - 2009 - 2012 starts a little slow at first but when the action starts it never stops. 2012 is about the end of the world and shows catastrophes at such an extreme that they are hard to believe but still the action and visuals in this film are excellent and the story line and acting are top notch as well. The movie is filled with Earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, lots of explosions and tons of destruction. The graphics are excellent. The idea of being able to drive away from these earth shattering catastrophes is a little far fetched but that is exactly what makes an action movie superb and deserving of the number one spot on my list of top 10 best action movies.
