Top 10 Best College Punt Returns for Touchdowns on YouTube

Here Are My Picks for the Best College Football Punt Returns for Touchdowns as Found on YouTube

Baseball may be "America's Sport", but everyone knows that football is America's greatest game. Football is the perfect blend of skill and luck combining to be incredibly entertaining. Momentum plays a huge role in the flow of a football game. Success breeds success, as the saying goes, and so it is with momentum during the game. And nothing can change the momentum of a football game quicker than a punt return for a touchdown. Punt returns can be among the most exciting plays in football. Some returns are special and some are truly spectacular. Here are my picks for the top ten college football punt returns for touchdowns to be found on YouTube.

10. DeSean Jackson, California. Jackson starts one way across the field, then reverses field a good way back across the field before breaking loose for the TD.

9. Ted Ginn, Jr., Ohio State. What would a top ten punt return list be complete without an appearance by Ted Ginn? What could be more sweet than taking a punt 82 yards to the house against your biggest rival? Doing so by breaking tackles and running away from the defense, that's what.

8. Tom Zbikowski, Notre Dame. Rivalry games always cause things to be taken up a notch. This one does not disappoint, as Zbikowski finishes off this return versus Southern Cal by dragging a couple guys with him.

7. Maurice Hines, Marshall. Hines reverses fields then breaks a couple tackles late as he takes this one to the house against Bowling Green.

6. Mike Cooney, Linfield. Yeah, I've never heard of Linfield either, or Whitworth for that matter, but this return is amazing. Cooney gives ground before making his break to score the touchdown against Whitworth.

5. Wes Welker, Texas Tech. Welker makes his living catching footballs in the NFL these days, but here is a glimpse of him before the big bucks. Welker breaks tackles and then pulls away from the pack in this 58 yard punt return versus Colorado.

4. Terrell Buckley, Florida State. This is a unique punt return, as Buckley fakes the fair catch when he receives the ball, then takes off when the Syracuse players give up on the play. 69 yards later, Buckley is putting 6 on the board for the Seminoles.

3. Darrelle Revis, Pittsburgh. I am a huge West Virginia fan, and even I have to admit that this is a great return. This 72 yard return by Pitt's Darrelle Revis against West Virginia in the 2006 Backyard Brawl hurt at the time, but at least the Mountaineers went on to win the game. Revis gets great blocking and breaks a couple of tackles on his own while tight-rope-walking the sideline.

2. Chad Owen, Hawaii. Hawaii is probably best known for their gun-slinging quarterbacks, most recently Tommy Chang. In this case, however, the special teams shine. 76 yards of breaking tackles and running over defenders. This return is simply amazing.

1. Devin Hester, Miami. Devin Hester is known for his returns for the Chicago Bears. Here he is doing it in college versus Duke. Hester reverses fields multiple times and breaks a number of tackles in this 70 yard romp to the end zone.

Remember, this was a list of videos available on YouTube at the time I compiled the list (April 2007). I'm sure there are some great ones available now that weren't there when I made this list and I'm sure there are some great ones that have yet to make their way on to YouTube. And I might not be as young as you think! :^)

You are a young guy, so I have noticed that you have mainly current athletes. Not to have Johnny Rodgers and even Charles White of USC on the list. No DEON! C'Mon MAN!

    Johnny Rodgers

I disagree, Shawn. It's almost sacrilegious not to have that Johnny Rogers punt return on here. And no Dion Sanders or Rocket Ismail?

Desean at #10?!?! Wow. Hes gotta be in the top 3 at least

I don't believe I saw that one at the time I compiled the list, but I still don't think it would have made the list. The setting (#1 vs. #2) makes is special, but the return itself doesn't really stack up to others on my list.

Even after doing a specific search for Breaston's name, I could not locate a video of a punt return for a TD. There was a nice punt return and and nice kick return, but no TD on either...
