Amy Stepp
Everyone knows a mans best friend is his dog, but what type of dog is the best breed for him? This guide of the top 10 best dog breeds for a man will help them narrow it down to which breed will suite his lifestyle the best.

There are two different types of dogs that are great for males. Ones that are strong, manly and great guard dogs, and the other set is the ones who are very active, loyal and friendly natured dogs. I will break down the top 10 breeds into these two categories so it will be easier for you to choose from the category you like best.

Guard Dogs:
1. Rottweiler - A great indoor/outdoor dog that is very strong and intimidating.
2. German Shepherd - A powerfully strong dog that has great natural guarding and protecting instincts.
3. Miniature Pinscher - A smaller version of the big Doberman Pinscher that has a very curious mind and will alert his owner when someone is nearby.
4. Mastiff - This giant dog was breeded to be used for hunting and protecting. It is very content to patrol his home to guard his family.

Active Dogs:
1. Labrador Retriever - This dog has boundless amounts of energy and is very popular with any active person who loves any type of sports, especially water sports.
2. Beagle - This dog is a great companion for the man who loves to hunt and stays active. On the plus side he will also pass out when it comes napping time, so it also makes for a great napping buddy.
3. Irish Setter - A dog that energetic and friendly enough to enjoy walks in the park.
4. Collie - This dog can be very active, intelligent but at the same time patient. This dog is more suitable for the more sensitive male.

The last two types of dogs fall more into the category of just playful and adorable. They can be active, and they also can be protective, just depends on their training. Even though they don't have a big distinctive quality as the other dog breeds do above, I still wanted to mention their breeds as well because their are some men out there who just love to have a dog to cuddle up with and watch some television. The Pug and The Boston Terrier are two dogs who are great for any man who is not worried about size or the bark to impress people or prove he is masculine.
