1.) New Year's Day - U2
This song brings back memories and has a certain hypnotic noise that echoes how we should feel. It's perfect because it doesn't knock you down or isn't to crazy. It's chill and on New year's eve we like chill.
2.) Happy New Year - Abba
It's Abba around the piano. The Swedish have enjoyed this song for years. Turn this one low and listen with your friends to the fantastic melodies and harmonies.
3.) Hello Mr. New Year - Coolbreezers
This continues the "chill" mood we set with the first two, but now we have the jump jiving beats of swing. Dance, laugh, and smile because the New year's come our way.
4.) It Was A Very Good Year - Frank Sinatra
Follow this one up to the Coolbreezers and relax. Listen to the words and reflect with your friends, laugh at jokes and stories. Alot of people say New year's isn't a big deal to them. That's because they don't do stuff like this.
5.) The New Year - Death Cab For Cutie
So it's kind of a new song. But after reflecting with ole blue eyes it's time to look forward with Death cab. The songs follow nicely together. And if you arent excited about a whole new year to turn everything around; then you obviously are to pessimistic to be at this party.
6.) New Year's Eve - The Walkmen
This is probably my favorite song on the list. The piano trinkles and playfully rides over a layer of fuzzy percussion. This song is short and leaves a lasting impression. This song isn't designed for you to think, it's made for the soul purpose of smiling.
7.) What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?
Any version of this song is great but look for the Stacie Orrico version, she has pipes. If your with a special someone this song is for you guys. Dance slowly to it and take in his or her eyes, itll be breathe taking. Not to mention the bass solo is pretty funky (depending on which version).
8.) As time goes by - Jimmy Durante
If I was not a man I would cry to this song. I dont know if it's the orchestra or the heart felt lyrics. Maybe it's Jimmy's radio host vocals.
9.) Auld Lang Syne
It goes without saying but I will say it anyways. The original poem writting by Robert Burns has been translated into a supreme anthem for bringing in the new year.
10.) I feel good - James Brown
Play this right after the ball drops and "Auld LAng Syne" is finished up. It's like a hollywood movie ending were their are no problems and everyone dances.
This is my list. Enjoy your New Year's and I this will bring out the spirit in everyone. Try playing a few common party songs in between most of these. You don't want to bash your guests in the head with the idea of New year's. Be subtle and chill.
