Hall Pass - This could be one of the best stoner comedy movies of 2011, but one that weed-loving women might not enjoy quite as much. It's about two past-their-prime, girl-obsessed guys (Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis) that are given hall passes by their wives to do whatever they want for an entire week. So of course one of their ideas involves weed: they play a round of golf after munching on pot brownies. Check it out on February 25, 2011 to see if it turns out to be one of the best stoner movies of the year.
Take me Home Tonight - This upcoming drama/comedy is one of the movies here that I'm not so sure about, but since it stars former "That 70's Show" stoner Topher Grace, it could have a few weed moments. He plays a directionless MIT grad that gets invited to an end-of-summer party by the girl of his dreams (Teresa Palmer), which leads to plenty of hijinks and hilarity. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the movie is set during the 80s, and there's evidently a lot of cocaine use in the film. So will weed also make an appearance? Check out Topher, Teresa, and costars Ana Faris, Dan Fogler, Michael Ian Black, and Michelle Trachtenberg on March 4, 2011 to see if this one is worthy of being considered one of the best stoner movies of 2011.
Paul - And will "Paul" become one of the best sci-fi stoner movies of all time? In this comedy, the beloved stars of "Hot Fuzz" and "Shaun of the Dead", Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, star as two UFO geeks who stumble upon a real alien named Paul, a little grey guy voiced by Seth Rogen. I already know that there will be pot-smoking in this one; you can see a scene here where Paul offers a hit of his extremely strong weed (that he got from the military) to one of his new pals played by Kristen Wiig, who proceeds to totally wig out. It's one of the stoner movies here that I've got high hopes for, so don't miss it on March 18, 2011.
Sucker Punch - And here's one of the upcoming stoner movies here that isn't a comedy, but if you've got the munchies, you'll find plenty of eye-candy here in Vanessa Hudgens, Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, and Carla Gugino. I know the "Alice in Wonderland" movies are stoner favorites, so this one set in a wild Wonderland full of robots, dragons, fire, machine guns, samurais, and explosions could end up being just as popular. Check out this more serious stoner flick on March 25, 2011.
Your Highness - Can't you tell that this medieval comedy from the director of "Pineapple Express" is going to be one of the best stoner movies of 2011 by the title? Funny guys James Franco and Danny McBride star as two very different princes: James Franco is the dashing, heroic Disney type, while Danny McBride is a slacker that enjoys loose maidens and "wizard's weed". However, he's forced to try to either become a hero and rescue a princess (Zooey Deschanel) along with his brother or get cut off by the King. Does it get any better? Oh yeah, Natalie Portman plays a warrior babe that joins the duo. So don't miss the magic, monsters, and maidens when what just has to be one of the best stoner movies of 2011 hits theaters on April 8, 2011.
The Hangover 2 - In the follow-up to one of the biggest stoner movies of 2009, the boys are back together in Thailand for Stu's wedding. Stu is trying to avoid the craziness the group experienced in Vegas, but of course things don't go according to plan. I don't know too much beyond that other than that a tattoo artist (Liam Neeson) is an important part of the story. So you'll just have to check this highly-anticipated comedy out on May 26, 2011 to see if pot is also a part of the plot.
30 Minutes or Less - I'm just guessing this will be one of the best upcoming stoner movies of 2011 where weed makes an appearance, because what's a comedy about pizza without pot? Jesse Eisenberg stars as a pizza delivery guy kidnapped by two criminals (Danny McBride and Nick Swardson) that force him to rob a bank. Aziz Ansari completes the cast of funny guys as the pizza boy's pal. So be prepared to get the munchies while watching this one on August 12, 2011.
Wanderlust - And here's another of the upcoming stoner movies of 2011 that I can confirm that weed will be referenced in. Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston play a couple that end up living in a commune, where they experiment with pot and the swingin' hippie lifestyle (Jennifer Aniston's character apparently even has sex with a pregnant woman that gives birth moments later). So will her raunchy new role finally charm audiences? Check it out on October 7, 2011 to find out.
The Rum Diary - Okay, so "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" was more about a variety of drugs than just weed, but I still think it can be considered among the best stoner movies of all time. So will another movie based on one of Hunter S. Thompson's tales be able to claim the same? With Johnny Depp starring, I've got high hopes that it will become an instant classic on October 11, 2011.
A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas - And just in time for the holidays, two of our favorite potheads (and NPH!) team up once more to find the perfect Christmas tree. So do they succeed, or do they get thwarted by weed? Don't miss this movie that's sure to become a holiday classic on December 23, 2011.
Honorable Mentions: "Hop", a movie in which Russell Brand voices an animated version of the Easter Bunny behaving badly hits theaters on April Fool's Day, while you'd have to be high to want to see Mel Gibson's next movie "The Beaver", in which he plays a guy who treats his ever-present beaver hand puppet like a person, on April 8, 2011.
So since weed is still illegal, don't miss getting a legal high (and a good case of the giggles) from the best stoner movies of 2011.
