Top 10 Bible Verses for Mothers and Mother's Day

Inspiration and Encouragement Just for Mom

Leveling Truth
Job 1:21 - "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised."

Being a mother is overwhelming. Like Job, mothers do not have to hide their grief, frustrations, disappointment, or other feelings. Even when mothers are tired or feel like they're at their wits' end, it is important not to lose faith in God. Even SuperMoms are admittedly human and need to depend on the Lord and praise him always.

1 Peter 3:15 - "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and grace."

Mom has a way with words. It's important for her to be grace under pressure and give advice and answers with loving words and gentle kindness. This verse reminds us why those qualities are so extremely important.

Isaiah 66:13 - "As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem."

Moms are great at meeting the needs of children. Kissing boo-boos, drying tears, and chasing away fears. However, Moms need comfort too. There is no boo-boo too big for God to heal if you let him.

Psalm 113:9 - "He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord."

All women are valuable in the eyes of the Lord. Whether you are a mother, expecting, trying to conceive, unable to conceive, or suffering from a miscarriage, the Lord loves you and has a perfect plan just for you. In His own time, He will show that to you.

Luke 11:27-28 - "As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, 'Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.' He replied, 'Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

Being a mother is an awesome responsibility and an incredible privilege. The joys of motherhood are exponentially greater when we mother in an obedient and honorable fashion.

Luke 11:33 - "No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead, he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light."

It seems that when the kitchen is overflowing with dirty dishes, the phone rings and unexpected company is going to show up in a half hour. We ransack the house throwing clothes in the closets, hiding toys under the sofa, and chunking items in cabinets where they belong. The kitchen junk drawer shouldn't even be mentioned as there's no telling what we've thrown in there! Thankfully, we don't have to hide from God. He proudly loves us, junk and all. Now, if only the dirty dishes in the sink could be as clean as God sees each one of us.

Matthew 15:4 - "For God said, 'Honor your father and mother'..."

Ephesians 6:2 - "Honor your father and mother"

Exodus 20:12 - "Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you."

As a mother, there are indeed times when we doubt ourselves. Are we being too harsh on our children? Have we inadvertently embarrassed our kids in front of their friends? Did we have to say no when our child expected us to say yes? God understands that it's not easy being a parent. God wants and expects our children to honor us, so much so that this important reminder is repeated several times in the Bible. If you are doubting yourself, reread all of these passages. If it didn't sink in the first time, go back and reread them some more. As you study, it is helpful to discern the difference between obeying, doing as you are told, and honoring, loving and respecting. Your children may not always obey you, but you can remind them that it is their responsibility to honor you for the rest of their lives.

1 John 4:4 - "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

Despite being mothers, we are also children ourselves. By ourselves we may feel alone and weak. Yet, with God by our side there is nothing that we cannot overcome as He is in us and greater than anything else. Mother's Day is one special day of the year, however every day is Mother's Day especially in the eyes of the Lord.
