According to Parents.com, popular names for boys last year consisted of a nice mix of traditional, classic and trendy. Will 2009 be the same way or judging by recent celebrity naming trends, will it be more adventurous?

1. Aidan

Origin: Celtic

Meaning: Little Fire

This is Aidan's second year at the top of the boys list. A name that was initially taken from early Irish saints, Irish American actor Aidan Quinn first brought attention to the name.

2. Jayden

Origin: Hebrew

Meaning: God has heard.

The name comes from a figure named Jadon in the Old Testament and has most recently has been bestowed on Britney Spears' youngest son.

3. Jacob

Origin: Hebrew

Meaning: Holder of the heel

Jacob has always been somewhere among the baby name charts in the past 100 years. In the Old Testament, Jacob was born holding his twin brother Esau's heel. Further, he was the immediate ancestor of the twelve tribes of Israel.

4. Michael

Origin: Hebrew

Meaning: Who resembles God?

Michael has held steady among the top 50 names for the past 100 years. It first reached No. 1 in 1954 and held it for 38 years. Michael was one of the seven archangels and the leader of heaven's armies in the New Testament.

5. Ethan

Origin: Hebrew

Meaning: Firm, steadfast

Taken from a figure in the Old Testament, the name Ethan has been shared by literary figures, patriots and actors over the years.

6. Caden

Origin: English

Meaning: Spirited

Caden is one of the more popular contemporary names on the list that first debuted in 1992.

7. James

Origin: Hebrew

Meaning: Supplanter

James was a biblical name for two apostles of Jesus. Over the years, it has been listed among the top five names for 100 years, only starting to drop in the 1980s.

8. Caleb

Origin: Hebrew

Meaning: Faithful

In the Old Testament, Caleb was one of 12 spies sent into Israel by Moses. Only he, Moses and Joshua were the only ones who lived long enough to see the promised land.

9. Andrew

Origin: Greek

Meaning: Manly

In the Bible, Andrew was the first apostle chosen by Christ. It has risen in popularity especially in Scotland and Great Britain since the birth of Prince Andrew in 1960.

10. Matthew

Origin: Hebrew

Meaning: Gift of God

In the Bible, Matthew was one of the 12 apostles and the author of the first Gospel in the New Testament. The name has been among the top 10 since 1972.

2008 had a great mix of names, but according to Parents.com, things are going to get a little more adventurous. With names like Brooklyn, Edward, Kanye, Bruce, Apollo, Jude, Javier, Constantine, Sebastien, Alistair and River on the list, who knows what could happen in 2009!
