Top 10 Christmas Charities

Donate to Charity for Christmas

Stacy Hensley
Christmas is a great time to donate to a charity and help out those that need it during the holidays. Many families struggle during Christmas and you can help them out by donating to a charity that helps families during Christmas. Here is my list of the top 10 Christmas charities.

Christmas Charity-#1
Make-A-Wish Foundation
The Make-A-Wish Foundation helps grant wishes for children with life-threatening health conditions. By donating to this charity for Christmas, you can help make a wish come true for a child that may not have another Christmas. Knowing that you helped put a smile on the face of a child that is battling a life-threatening condition is a great feeling.

Christmas Charity-#2
The Salvation Army's Angel Tree
The Angel Tree program is a charity that provides new clothes, toys, and other gifts for needy children for Christmas. Paper angels are attached to Christmas trees that are located in malls, stores, and other locations. The paper angel contains the first name, age, and gender of the child. You can choose one or more of the angels from the tree and purchase age appropriate gifts and clothes for the child. Return the purchased gifts back to where you adopted the angel and the parents of the child will pick up the items to give to them on Christmas day.

Christmas Charity-#3
Samaritan's Purse
Samaritan's Purse delivers shoe boxes filled with gifts to under-privileged children in other countries. Visit their website to find out the specifics on what to include in the shoe box, how to pack it, and where you can drop it off to be sure it gets to a child this Christmas.

Christmas Charity-#4
Toys for Tots
The U.S. Marine Corps Reserves holds their Toys for Tots campaign each year during the months of October, November, and December. Unwrapped toys are collected to be given to needy children at Christmas. The gifts are distributed in the communities where they are collected.

Christmas Charity-#5
My Two Front Teeth
Donating to My Two Front Teeth is simple. You go to the website, choose the child you want to sponsor, choose which gift from their wishlist that you wish to purchase, pay with your credit card, and you are finished. My Two Front Teeth takes care of wrapping and distributing the gift to the child for Christmas.

Christmas Charity-#6
Local Food Banks
Local food banks donate food baskets to families so that they can have Christmas dinner. Most food banks accept food and monetary donations. If you don't have much money but still want to help, consider donating your time to help the food bank put all the boxes together and deliver them.

Christmas Charity-#7
Local Schools
Many local schools try to provide food or gifts for needy students and their families. Contact the school system and ask if they are taking donations or if you can donate gifts or food.

Christmas Charity-#8
Homeless Shelters

Volunteer your time to help cook Christmas dinner at your local homeless shelter. This is a great charity that you can get the entire family involved in. Start a Christmas tradition where the family spends a couple of hours every Christmas volunteering their time to make the holidays better for others.

Christmas Charity-#9
Local Children's Services Agency

Contact your local Children's Services Agency and ask if you can donate money or gifts for children that do not have family to spend their holiday with this year.

Christmas Charity-#10
Local Nursing Homes

Sponsor an elderly person this Christmas. Some people in nursing homes don't have family that visits during the holidays. Get in touch with the nursing home and see if they can give you some information on a patient that doesn't have family. Find out what the person likes or needs at take it to them this Christmas. A small gift and a few minutes of company can make the day of some of these patients.

No matter what charity that you decide to donate to this Christmas, you will feel wonderful knowing that you helped brighten this Christmas for someone else.

Great list. Another great organization to partner with during the Holidays is Head Start. At JobNabScouts, we are doing Head Start Angel Trees, much like the Salvation Army trees you mentioned in your article. Thanks again!

A wonderful lady came to our rescue and sent many gifts for our disabled son and 10 year old Grandson. The site is Wish upon a Hero. And that some people truly are.

  • Need help with food and clothes for our 22 year ol12/12/2009

I have no where to turn for help. I'm in North Bergen and I have no programs to go to.We live on mine & Chris's SSI checks while we wait for my husband of 35 plus years gets his claim for disability.Being Chris is 22 but with the brain fuction of a 10 year old I'm getting turned down as he is to old. He is in desperate need of mens small sweat pants, soft sleep pant and shirts to sleep in. He has a skin sensory problem as well so he's clothes have to be soft. I know it's very late to look for help, but the money we had put aside now has to go to my husbands surgeon on Jan.13 TH for skin cancer. So now not so much as a stocking filler. Please isn't there anyone for could find it in their heart and help Chris. God Bless you All, Ro

This is a great list of charities! They do have deadlines to register for Christmas help. If the deadlines are missed people can try contacting their local churches. Sometimes they will help.
