I would have to say hands down the best Christmas movie to come out of the 90's is the original Home Alone (1990) movie followed by its sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). In the original Home Alone, eight year old Kevin McCallister is left "home alone" during the Christmas holidays while his family flies to France. He has to protect his home from a couple of dumb thieves. In the sequel, Kevin and his family are headed to Florida for the holidays but Kevin is separated from his family and ends up in New York. Armed with a credit card, he enjoys his time in the Big Apple and runs into the thieves he encountered in the original Home Alone. He finds out the thieves are planning to rob a toy store and he decides to stop them.
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) is the Muppets version of the classic tale by Charles Dickens of Ebenezer Scrooge.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) is twisted Christmas tale by Tim Burton. In this uniquely animated movie in a style that is a trademark of Tim Burton, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town happens upon Christmas town and sets out to turn it into another Halloween town.
Miracle on 34th Street (1994) is a remake of the 1947 classic tale. This is definitely one of my favorite Christmas movies that was produced from the 1990s. I thought the remake was done rather well. It's a tale of a little girl who finds that anything is possible if you believe.
In The Santa Clause (1994), a divorced dad is taking care of his son on Christmas. On the night before Christmas, he puts on a Santa suit and becomes the legendary Santa Clause.
All I Want For Christmas (1991), is an funny yet heart warming story about two kids that try to spend the holidays with their divorced parents. The conjure up a scheme to get their parents back together but face many obstacles along the way.
Although Batman Returns (1992), the sequel to the 1989 box office hit Batman isn't what you would typically consider a Christmas movie. Since it is set during the Christmas season and many of the backdrops of the scenes involve Christmas I thought this would be a nice addition to the list.
As far as Christmas movies go, I think the late 80's and early 90's had some of the best Christmas movies. The ones listed here are my take on the best of the 90s.www.imdb.com
The Nutcracker (1993) starring Jessica Lynn Cohen as the little girl that falls asleep and dreams of a fantasy world where a Nutcracker Prince played by Macaulay Culkin protects her from an evil Mouse King.
In Jingle All The Way (1996), Arnold Schwarzenegger (now Governor Schwarzenegger) stars as Howard Langston, a father that continuously disappoints his son. As a way to make it up to his son, he promises to get him a popular action figure doll, "Turbo Man". He sets out on Christmas Eve in search for the impossible to find action figure. He will stop at nothing to keep his promise to his son.
