Top 10 Christmas Songs: My List

Christmas and singing go together like horse and carriage, paper and pencil, and peanut butter and jelly. From school to church to family gatherings, Christmas Music is enjoyable to both performers and audience. There are so many memorable Christmas songs it is hard for me to pick a favorite, let alone a top 10 list! However, I've listed 10 of my favorites and why I like them.

Away in a Manger is one I really like. It puts the biblical story of the birth of Jesus to words and music:

"Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head."

It is so easy to put images with this religious song.

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth is a really fun song. I can remember singing it when I was little. It is whimsical in lyric and has a very catchy tune.

Frosty The Snowman is not only one of the best Christmas songs, but it is appropriate all winter long. This classic Christmas song is also the basis for an animated cartoon by the famous Rankin-Bass producers which is a holiday favorite on TV.

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, another song that Rankin-Bass turned into a TV special, is a favorite of mine as well. This is a cute song about Rudolph and the other reindeer that guide Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve.

Here Comes Santa Clause is a delightful song reminding us that Santa is coming soon!

Jingle Bells has to be considered one of the top 10 Christmas songs. It is a very joyful, happy song. It is fun to sing at parties, and even more fun if you have some sleigh bells to jingle.

The Little Drummer Boy has a catchy beat with its

"Pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum."

A very cute song, also a TV cartoon.

Up On The Housetop is a great tune and everyone can participate. Kids love to
snap their fingers to the Up on the housetop Click, click, click part of the lyrics.

White Christmas

"White Christmas" was written Irving Berlin and achieved fame when it was crooned by Bing Crosby in the 1942 movie production of "Holiday Inn". The lyrics of White Christmas bring a warm feeling of family, Christmas traditions, and other good memories associated with the holiday season.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas is very popular among Christmas Carolers. A fantastic song wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, this upbeat carol is traditionally sung as a group of carolers move on to their next stop.

Silent Night a beautiful, quiet song reminding us that Jesus was born at night. With emphasis on Jesus and his mother, Mary, this is perhaps the most famous and oft sung of the best Christmas songs. A favorite audience participation song for closing church programs, most get a nudge of emotion while singing Silent Night.

I believe in the power of positive thinking. I'm a mother of 5, all grown, and I've 3 grandchildren that I spoil. Life is full of joy and I am here to live it. I am an explorer, a reader, a writer, a think...  View profile

St. Francis of Assisi is reportedly the "Father of Christmas Caroling". In 1223 he placed a Nativity Scene in a hermitage in Italy, and this idea spread. Actors portraying the Christmas story composed and sang songs. Thus, caroling was born.
