Comic book podcasts have been around since the birth of the medium. Many of those first shows are still around and producing programs week after week. Here are ten of the best.
Each week, new audio downloads are available on the subject of comic books. The following shows offer the best content this genre of the medium has to offer.
Comic Geek Speak
This was one of the first comic book podcasts created. The roundtable consists of about five to six regular hosts - Bryan Deemer, Peter Rios, Shane Kelly, Jamie D., Adam Murdough, and Brian Christman, that present various topics in the comic book medium. They also host an annual "Supershow" that brings industry professionals from around the country to meet fans.
IFanboy
Three fanboys - Conner, Ron and Josh have grown their show into a very popular hit. Their weekly Pick of the Week show is released on Sundays and they also have a video show that comes out once a week.
11 O'Clock Comics
Four guys, alcoholic beverages and comic book talk. The hosts of the show, Chris Neseman, Jason Wood, Vince B. and David Price are sincere in their praise and their criticisms. Vince B. gives some of the best insight to be heard on comic book art.
Comic Book Page
Bob Bretall and John Mayo give a weekly spotlight on three books released in the last week or two. John also gives sales breakdown in separate editions called the Mayo Report.
Collected Comics Library
From Detroit, Chris Marshall lists the upcoming collected editions and spotlights a certain release every week. Chris's website is also a great resource for the latest collected edition news.
Raging Bullets
All DC Comics talk. Lots of enthusiasm from Sean Whelan and Jim Segulin on releases from the comics company that brings you Superman, Batman and others. Reviews include DC comics books past and present.
Spider-Man Crawlspace
The focus here is on everyone's favorite wallcrawler. Host Brad brings in a regular group of Spidey experts as they focus on the latest Spider-Man releases and have interviews with professionals who have worked specifically on Spider-Man.
Word Balloon
John Siuntres hosts this podcast, which is the closest thing the comics industry has to the Charlie Rose interview show. John talks to the current top talent of the industry as well as comic book legends such as Howard Chaykin and Marv Wolfman.
Fanboy Radio
This is one of the first syndicated comic book shows. It is actually a radio show that releases its episodes in podcast form every week. Scott Hinze is a great energetic personality that, with co-host Oliver Tull and other revolving contributors, creates a fun show week after week.
Around Comics
The Around Comics podcast is ending soon, but the archives will be up for your listening pleasure. This podcast revolved around the three personalities of Chris Neseman, Brian Salazar and Tom Katers - and these guys are hilarious. Fun comic talk, great interviews, and people you like to spend an hour or so with. This podcast will be missed by all but the body of work is greatly appreciated.
Be sure to check iTunes and other podcasts feeds for all this great content!
