Get Ready, Get Set, Let's Get Healthy!

It's a New Year and many make resolutions to make the New Year better than the last. Some make resolutions in general. Some make them resolutions targeted toward a special goal in life. And some make resolutions for a healthier life. Today we are going to look at some resolutions that you can make to ensure a healthier life and lifestyle in 2010. Are you ready to make that commitment?

Resolution No. 1

Lose weight. It sounds much easier than done, especially if you are over 40. Metabolism slows down and women especially have a hard time losing weight as she ages. Set a goal and stick to it.

Resolution No. 2

Exercise. Do you find yourself so busy that you do not have time to exercise? You are not alone. Many of us work full time and have to come home to take care of a house and family. Make sure you set aside 20-30 minutes several times a week to exercise. If you have the time, you may want to join a gym. Go for it!

Resolution No. 3

Vitamins. Sometimes we do not get all the nutrients we need from diet alone. Taking a daily multi-vitamin will ensure that you do!

Resolution No. 4

Eat More Vegetables and Fresh Fruit. Add more green and yellow vegetables to your diet. Green vegetables are healthier and contain antioxidants. You should have 3-5 fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.

Eat More Fresh Fruit. Most of us don't get enough fruit in our diet. Processed fruits contain sugar, preservatives, artificial coloring and flavoring sometimes and do not measure up to fresh fruits. Take time to shop at a local fresh market for fresh fruits and vegetables.

Resolution No. 5

Take Time to Stretch During the Day. Working in an office for eight hours during the day can get muscles tight and stiff. Stay active by getting up and walking around on breaks if you can. If not, do some stretches at your desk for a couple of minutes during the morning and again in the afternoon. You can stretch both your arms and legs to get blood circulating and also keep you from getting stiff.

Resolution No. 6

Do Away With Convenience. You have heard this before and I'll tell you again. Take the stairs instead of the elevator if you are only going up or down 2 floors. When shopping park a distance away from the door. This extra walking will go a long way toward keeping you fit and losing weight.

Resolution No. 7

Get a Check-Up. This is important, especially for men who seem to think they only need to go to the doctor when they are sick. Having your vital signs checked gives your doctor a baseline and figures for blood work, etc. to work from whenever you ARE sick. It is also an excellent time to catch something that would otherwise go unnoticed. You know what they say---prevention is the best medicine.

Resolution No. 8

Get a Dental Check-Up. Oral health is also important and regular check-ups ensure that your teeth and gums are in good health.

Resolution No. 9

Cut Out Junk Food. If you are serious about losing weight and leading a healthier life in 2010 you will need to toss out the potato chips, candy bars, and other high calorie snacks. Replace snacks with yogurt, fruit and fresh veggies like carrot sticks.

Resolution No. 10

Remove the Negatives. I left this one for last because it is important. If you have made a decision to be healthier in 2010, don't let anyone or anything get in your way. If that means not associating with one of your girlfriends who always has a caramel drizzle cappuccino in hand or another that drinks soft drinks and chips all day, then so be it.

So there you have it. Are you ready to make the decision to lead a healthier life in 2010?
