Top 10 Country Christmas Songs

Country music has a special way of celebrating Christmas that's honest, sincere, heartfelt and very human. That's why I recommend you throw a few country classics into your holiday time playlist.

10. Dr. Elmo "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer"
Let's get it out of the way before we get to the really great stuff. If you spend Christmas with family, chances are you'll be in the company of at least one young child whose never heard this classic, an old person whose heard it and forgotten it, or the easily amused guy who just thinks maiming old people is funny during the holidays. It's so light-hearted that it's practically harmless, and quite a bit of fun.

9. Alan Jackson- "I Only Want You For Christmas" - It's sweet. It's romantic. The kinda song you dance to with that special someone beneath the mistletoe

8. Brenda Lee- "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" This classic is so catchy that it almost demands its listeners to sing along, dance along, get drunk and demand that it be played again. It's welcome at holiday parties, family events, and anywhere eggnog is distributed.

7. Alan Jackson- "Rudolph The Red Nosed Rendeer" -Christmas is way better when you're a kid: less shopping, less cooking, less stress, more magic. Jackson's rich voice gives authority to the old classic, while the twangy fiddles turn children's games into a jamboree.

6. The Tractors- "Swingin Home for Christmas" -Arguably the hardest-rockin country song on this list, it echoes the enthusiasm of a young man eagar for the annual holiday reunion with his family. Sure, you may be wild, young and headstrong, but 'no matter where you roam' you still gotta come home.

5. Alan Jackson- "Honky Tonk Christmas" - This tongue-in-cheek homage to every classic country Christmas staple is the story of a man whose girlfriend broke up with him shortly before the holidays. It stands alone as a serviceable song even if you don't catch every reference Alan throws at you.

4. Johnny Cash- "Little Drummer Boy" - Johnny Cash's version of this song is honest, humble, and authoritative, echoing perfectly the theme of the song: everyone giving the best of their talents as a gift to their lord and savior.

3. Tammy Wynette- "White Christmas" -The Irving Berlin classic takes on a full-bodied and sensual performance thanks to Tammy's rich and soulful, voice. Her country twang adds just enough attitude to add a new twist to an old classic.

2. Elvis Presley - "Blue Christmas" - The worst thing in the world is to be heartbroken during the holidays, when everyone's happy and sharing the love. Few can jerk out the beauty and the pain like Elvis in his timeless classic.

1. Amy Grant - "Tennessee Christmas" - No song unites pride in one's home, one's upbringing, like an allegiance to the unconventional, warm climate that the South puts on Christmas. It's beautiful, gentle and makes you feel good.
