Top 10 Dunkers in NBA History

Jake James
The art of the slam dunk is a magical thing. Whether it be the high-flyers, the power-jammers, or the smooth and graceful, dunking is one of the most beautiful things to watch in sports. Let's examine the list of the ten greatest NBA dunkers of all time.

10. Nate Robinson - Now the two-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion, Nate Robinson is the most athletic little man to ever play the game. Robinson is listed as 5'9'', but I would challenge that any day and guess he's more around 5'6''. He can fly with the best of them and is a frequent recipient of the ally-oop via his New York Knick teammates. Check out some of Nate Robinson's greatest dunks here.

9. Larry Nance - This 6'10'' power forward/center was one of the most fluid and graceful dunkers ever. He won the 1984 Slam Dunk Contest and was a three-time all star. View his best dunks here.

8. Kobe Bryant - Watching Kobe dunk a ball is a beautiful thing. With great style and flare, he makes it look effortless. He was also the 1997 Slam Dunk Champion his rookie season. Check out his greatest dunks here.

7. Darryl Dawkins - Oh what power! Dawkins was infamous for his basket-shattering jams. Perhaps the greatest power dunker of all time. See his shattering jams here.

6. Julius Erving - Famous for his swooping reverse layup, Dr. J was one heck of a dunker as well. Ranking six on my list for his amazing leaping ability and incredible agility while mid-air. Check out his best dunks here.

5. Shawn Kemp - Another great power-dunker, Kemp is infamous for his earth-shattering two handed jams. Watching the Seattle SuperSonics was a joy throughout the 90's knowing you could see something special every time he touched the ball. For more Shawn Kemp dunks click here.

4. Dominique Wilkins - Yes, the human highlight real. Wilkins won two of the five NBA Slam Dunk Contests he entered, beating Michael Jordan in the 1985 finals. Check out Wilkins infamous dunks here.

3. Lebron James - Dominique may be the human highlight real, but James is the human freight train. He punishes the rim every time he goes up with the ball and may be the greatest leaper we've ever seen in the NBA. To see Lebron's greatest jams click here.

2. Michael Jordan - With only two names left Jordan falls just short with the number two spot on the list of NBA greatest dunkers. You don't need me to describe what kind of player Jordan was, but watching "His Airness" mid-flight was magical. Jordan was also a two-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion. For more "Air Jordan" dunks look here.

...And the #1 spot goes to none other than Vince Carter. The show that he put on in the 2000 NBA Slam Dunk Contest is one of the greatest things I've ever seen in sports. He accompanies that title with some of the most infamous in game dunks of all time. View all of Vince's dunks here.

there is a totally forgotten dunker whose career was relatively short and was not well known because he played for the blazers. his name was billy ray bates. her rarely made layups and dunked over many good players like dennis johnson, jack sikma..etc
