The leaves have begun to change colors. The night has become a bit cooler and the wind has a chill to it. That's right, Autumn has arrived. As many of us begin to retreat back to the comfort of our homes during the fall and winter months. But this may mean that a lot of your normal calorie burning activities will begin to slow and come to a halt during your holiday season.

Here is ten simple things you can do to assure you keep up the burn as you do your normal fall and winter activities.

1. Raking Leaves
Raking leaves is wonderful for keep up your metabolism and keeping the burn going strong. Raking leaves utilizes your arms and upper body giving you a quality workout. It also allows you to work you thighs and back as you sack or move your leaves to the plastic bag or burn pile. With the leaves falling everyday this is a wonderful activity to do at least twice a week.

2. Preparing your garden/flower beds for winter
As you begin to harvest your garden or protect your flower beds from frost, you can use this time to get in a few extra moments of burning calories. This includes mulching/ harvesting, moving plants to a green house, even pulling the plants from the garden after harvesting. Winterizing your plant and garden area allows you to receive an all over body workout and often this is an activity that takes several weeks working on each area of your yard.

3. Winterize your home
Wrapping your pipes and insulating your windows are just small aspects of winterizing your home. Both of these are excellent for your abs and upper body strength. When winterizing your home, take your time. Not only will you save your self some money going into detail. You also will find areas of your home that you may have missed. Check where your cable wires enter your home. Check your attic. Being meticulous not only allows you extra workout time, it can save you a bundle in heating costs in the long run.

4. Check for creepy crawlies
It is the time of year when the critters from the outside world begin to search for warmer places to hide. Cleaning cobwebs gives you upper body exercise and checking for other creatures allows you to really get down and bend those legs. Check every cubby hole. Check them at least once a week. Not only will your family thank you, they will adore them tight jeans as well.

5. Clean out your cabinets
The holidays are just around the corner. This is an excellent time to take inventory of your cooking ingredients. Use this time to really deep clean your cabinets. Not only will you get a work out from dusting, but also from removing the can goods and dishes as well. With a major holiday each month, this is the perfect opportunity to get in some good ole fashion exercise and a wonderful way to make holiday shopping easier.

6. Hide your presents high and low
As you begin your holiday shopping, hide your present high or low enough to where you either have to reach or bend to get them out of their hiding place. This allows you to get in some extra workout while not even really thinking about it. And since you probably shop off and on, this is a small activity that you can use to all holiday season.

7. Shopping
Make sure you walk the outside aisle at least once while shopping. Walking is a very important part of any aerobic activity. Why not get in a few extra steps while at the grocery store. It is easy to do and soon you will be doing it out of habit. One of the easiest way to do it is to browse before you buy. This allows you to walk the store once and then once more after you've committed to your choices.

8. Deep clean that house
It's the holiday season, so you know your family will be coming. This is an excellent way to achieve some extra brunt calories. By moving your furniture and deep cleaning your closets, you naturally burn more calories than just your daily cleaning chores. And since there is several holidays during the winter months, set some time aside before each holiday to deep clean.

9. Decorations
You know it is the holiday months. Spend some extra time hanging your holiday decorations. Take the time to make some from scratch using stuff from your home and your yard. Searching for these items will allow you to get up and be creative. And ifyou are burning some extra calories while your at it, then enjoy it. There is plenty of ways to burn calories while hanging decorations from moving bales of hay for Halloween to hanging light for Christmas. Be sure that you are the one that uses the ladder and does the heavy stuff. Be creative and have fun.

10. Play
It is the holidays. This is time that should be spent with your family. Wrestle with your children or spouse. Laugh and enjoy yourself. If you allow yourself to have playtime, you will burn three times the calories than sitting on the couch. Get up, go play outside. Jump into a pile of leaves or climb that sledding hill. This is the time for winter/holiday fun. Enjoy yourself.
