First and foremost if you have never been to Denver, you have get yourself to The Colorado State Capitol Building, it's never too late to have a little lesson in history. The Colorado State Capitol Building is on Colfax Ave and Lincoln St and are open Mon-Fri 9am-3:30pm. Weekdays are the best days to go take a tour and learn more about the amazing architectural work and see the legislative proceedings.
The next place just waiting to be visited is the United States Mint. The U.S. Mint not far from The Colorado State Capitol Building is located 320 W Colfax Ave. and open Mon-Fri 8am-3pm except for holidays. The best time to go is early especially in the summer because it's congested with touring travelers much like you.
Ok I know you're ready for a thrill, this next place has to be the coolest! It's the Coors Brewery Tour, which is on 12th and Ford St. their hours are Thu-Mon 10am-4pm, Sun 12pm-4pm. The tour is about forty-five minutes and afterward you get a taste testing session of their finest, remember to drive safe.
A very beautiful City Park is a site for sore eyes. There are so many wonderful things to stop and smell the roses for. City Park is on E 18th Avenue and opens daily at 5am and closes at 11pm. The park is spread over a lovely 320 acres with a pond, ducks, and fountain.
Need something a little more kid friendly try the Celestial Seasonings Tour of Tea, the aromas themselves will make you feel as though you've died and gone to heaven. You can find this tour of tea on Sleepytime Drive, tours are given Mon-Sat 10am-3pm, Sun 11am-3pm. The tour takes about forty-five minutes and ends with a delectable tea tasting session.
Although festivals need a little more scheduling than other events, they are just as much if not more enjoyable. Golden Fine Arts Festival only happens once a year, Saturday, August 18 - Sunday, August 19 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. both days on 11th St. and Arapahoe St., Golden. One of the highlights is the free horse-drawn carriage rides through the streets of historic Golden.
There is another just as quaint as the Golden Festival, Rocky Mountain Balloon Festival, the name says it all. This festival is Saturday, August 25 - Sunday, August 26 Catch a glimpse of hot air balloons lifting off from 6:30 a.m. - 8 a.m. Chatfield State Park, Littleton. Also offered for enjoyment are local musical acts and exhibits.
If you have never seen a dragon boat up close and person, then maybe this next festival is right up your alley. Colorado Dragon Boat Festival brings so much diversity and culture with an Asian celebration. This celebration takes place at Sloan's Lake Park, Denver on Saturday, July 28 - Sunday, July 29. They have crafts, musical acts, and so much food to choose from.
Much like the Chicago Greeters, Denver has their very own rendition known as the Downtown Denver Walking Tour. I mean really what better way to familiarize yourself with Denver than by getting a first hand glimpse through a walking tour. The tours begin at 1600 California St, Denver. For more information check out there website.
Finally, last but not least, if all this touring has made you hungry you should visit The Same Café on E. Colfax Avenue. By the way "same" stands for "So All May Eat" meaning someone put the honor system to use in something besides candy. In this café there's a box on the counter for diners to donate their dollars which incidentally all the profits from the café go to various charities in the Denver area. Interested in more info visit them on the web at soallmayeat.com.
